The #CanWNT in the Autumn of 2021 catchall thread

Recommended Posts

There will be a strong desire to play at least one home match to celebrate the Gold Medal!!!
After London 2012 we didn't play a home match until June 2013 (vs the USA).
After Rio 2016 we didn't play until February 2017 (vs Mexico).

FIFA dates:
September 13th to the 21st
October 18th to the 26th
November 22 to December 1st

I think the CSA will skip one or possibly two of the three friendly windows this Fall to rest players + save money + have staff focus on the logistics of the #CanMNT playing in the Octagonal. If we play #CanWNT friendlies in Canada/USA it will have to be against non-UEFA opponents (or possibly Ukraine in September).

The NWSL regular season finishes October 31st and the playoffs end on November 20th

WCQ starts in 2022 (except for UEFA)

If we play in Europe, in terms of decently ranked teams, we can play:

September (first matchday) :
- Finland
- Ukraine
- Iceland

September (second matchday) :
- Republic of Ireland
- Ukraine

October (first matchday) :
- Spain

October (second matchday) :
- Sweden
- Scotland
-Czech Republic

November (first matchday) :
-Iceland

November (second matchday) :
- Finland
- The Netherlands

Prior to COVID, we had a deal in place where we would go down to Australia to play friendlies and they would play on Canadian soil. Maybe that is an option.

I would love it if we played a friendly here in Melbourne!

Would be awesome if the September match was in Canada.

BC Place would be available after Sep. 11 based on Lions and Whitecaps schedule.

I realize the pandemic could put a wrench in to that but it would be cool to have a home friendly as a post Olympic celebration.

Play a Gold Medal Victory tour like they have for the US. Play everywhere coast to coast  so everyone one can celebrate and this team can be on the pedestal they deserve. I am sure corporate Canada would get behind it. Who cares about the opponent,. This is something the CSA must do. Today was absolutely huge for footy in this country, take advantage of it for the greater good.

13-21 September

If we play home a home match in September the opponents could be:
-Ukraine (all other UEFA teams are in WCQs)
-Japan/Australia/China (all other AFC teams are in WCQs)
-Mexico/Costa Rica/Jamaica (or a weaker CONCACAF opponent, not the US as they will play two home friendlies)
-Brazil/Chile/Argentina/Colombia (or a weaker CONMEBOL opponent)
-South Africa/Nigeria/Zambia (or another, possibly weaker CAF opponent)
-New Zealand

As @narduch said, BC Place seems free.

18-26 October

For October, there are more choices when it comes to opponents but .
The rumour is that the #USWNT have invited South Korea for two matches in the USA so both those teams are out
Saputo Stadium in Montreal looks free.
BC Place is also free.

22-30 November

It's tough to judge stadium availability for November when you factor in playoffs for CFL and MLS Teams and obviously the risk of snow is higher!

Sadly, the international window for September has started and there is nothing going on.

Maybe a victory tour match in October?

CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, CAF and Japan/Australia/China/India are all opponents we can play.

Saputo is still the stadium that is completely free.
