2018 GA and Dallas Cup

In the GA Cup Lower Division:

Montreal beats Colorado 2-1. Thoroughly unimpressed with the Impact as they relied on their superior size to beat the Rapids. Calin Calaidjoglu was Montreal's best field player on the day. The Moldovan-Canadian started almost every attack and got a goal himself. Jonathan Sirios made 5-6 great saves to keep the Canadians on top. Tons of size and strength, but this group looks really raw for 17 year olds.

Seattle dominates Matsumoto Yamaga 6-1 with Canadian eligible Finn Hoffman on the bench.

In the GA Cup Top Division:

Toronto takes on Eintracht Frankfurt at 3:30 Eastern.

Mexican-Brazilian-Canadian striker Rafael Pinzon is in the Pachuca squad against the LA Galaxy at 5:45 Eastern. Best player on our u15 team last year.

So we’re gonna lose Pinzon to Mexico ???

so MTL bigger than Colorado but raw ?

Pinzon wasn't called up to the Mexican u15 team and played for us. It's possible he considers Mexico if he is good enough to play for them, but Mexico is flooded with young attacking players so it's not a huge concern at the moment.

Montreal v Colorado looked like a good u17 team against a very good u16 team. Colorado was cleaner in possession and passing, but couldn't deal with the physicality of bigger players in the end. Montreal is athletic, but only a couple players stood out in terms of ability on the ball. Colorado definitely won the game on expected goals. This Montreal u17 class looks less talented than their Vancouver and Toronto compatriots outside of Calin Calaidjoglu.

Any one stand out for TFC Harrycoyster?

Mehdi Essoussi had the only decent chance of the game after he beat 2 defenders by himself on the wing, but he played the ball too long and the keeper collected it. Other than that, not much that stood out in a good way. King made 3-4 good saves at the back, but was poor on the second goal.

Biggest loser is probably Cheyrou. TFC came out in a 3-man midfield and were completely overrun by Frankfurt's midfield heavy formation. Packed the boys in after they went down 2-0, then went to a long ball heavy 4-4-2 in the second half. There were really high winds on the day, and the game devolved into Frankfurt having 80% possession with occasional TFC possession in the final third off a windswept ball that found a Canadian head. Bad gameplan after bad gameplan.

Was there a stream of the game?

MLS only has cameras on the two main fields, but Frankfurt had the match on their website. Looks like they upload the replays of their u17 games after a few days, so you may be able to catch the game there eventually.
