bettermirror
Without doing my own research - what happened to UBC??? They were apparently pretty dominant in the CIS west this year.

Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by loyola UBC lost 2-1 to TWU in the Canada West semi-final last friday. In penalties. Their only two losses were the last game of reg season to Victoria, which gave UVic home advantage in Candada West, and the Canada West semi. Wrong time to slip up, though clearly the rivals were strong and UBC was not totally dominant. Too bad though.
Vic
The format of nationals is questionable. Losing your first game and not having a chance to medal or finish above 5th is bad enough. But if you are applying seedings they should be based on this years national rankings and not guesstimated provincial strength from long ago. I'm not sure what your complaining about because this year 1/4 finals matchups were perfect IMO. The teams in Nationals are always at very similar levels, except maybe the Atlantic teams who are a bit weaker. As for the format, there isn't a ton of possibilities. Either you go with 6 teams (2 groups of 3) or 8 teams (playoffs format, groups would be impossible since you would need a whole week in order to have those guys playing 4 games). Back to Basics
Watching that York game. The Smith & Ladiyou paring look like a fortress back. Smith's anticipation and pure athleticism makes it hard for opposition and Ladiyou's power and aggression put the fear of god in fowards. They make a solid match, complimenting each other well. Bruno after being named CIS player of Year, got a handled throughout the match. The announcers recognised the Smith and Ladiyou paring as well. But they were speaking of Jarek Whiteman, another player in the u20 pool actually the starting foward in the Argentine match.. is he hurt? does anyone know and will affect Canada if he was selected for the Swiss Camp. gwsmith63
York certainly deserved the title after being the best team during the tournament. Trinity Western made them work for it though. Gerard Ladiyou (York-defender) named MVP for the tournament. IMHO, I thought Hamilton from Trinity was the best player there this weekend. gws
