snowsoccer
Canada does not have a single francophone player on their roster. This is unacceptable.Let's not kid ourselves. There is a lot of talented francophone soccer players who would be far more motivated and interested to play amongst their own. Its a natural tendency. We don't need to point any fingers at anybody. Birds of a feather flock together. But this situation needs to be dealt with for the benefit of everybody.
Loud Mouth Soup
So should Nunavut have there own as well, just because it currently has no one representing the teritory on the women's team? What about PEI? New Brunswick? Nova Scotia? /stupid reasoning
snowsoccer
You don't have a clue. Québec is usually among the top three provinces in producing canadian club championship teams. The defending senior womens' provincial champion is a francophone team-quebec dynamo.
Loud Mouth Soup
Right. So it's some Anglo bias, right?

Bxl Boy
If you want a Quebec national team, Quebec should be a country first... Then, I'll be happy to cheer for them !

Who, Mr Snow, from Quebec, aside from francophone Gabriel Gervais who IS on the roster, should be on the Canadian team from your list of "talented francophone players"? Please share your ideas. Cheers!

DoyleG
I always seem to hear these complaints when Quebcois claim to be "neglected" by national teams.
The Ref
Funny, on another board there is a guy always complaining about Ontario women being neglected.
Elaine
quote:Originally posted by Sigma There is one player from Quebec on the latest training camp roster. Two were on the last roster!! And three since Morneau was called in but had an injury and couldn't particpate .. and .. gasp, she's a francophone too. Darn it.

The Beaver
Wow, the two most bothersome provinces in the Dominion: Quebec and Alberta, going head to head. God I'm tired of listening to the selfish rants of these two self-important, greedy, pain-in-the-ass provinces. Grow up. The rest of your fellow Canadians are waiting for you to shut up and join the party. I'll bring the BC bud! [8D]
Richard
Quebec already has 'national' teams in the form of their provincial allstars, just like they call their provincial legislature a 'national assembly'. If it helps their communal self-esteem to call their provincial institutions 'national' then so be it. Our indian bands like to call themselves nations too and that doesn't seem to bother folks much. Doesn't change the reality that Quebec is still but one province out of ten in the Canadian confederation.
