Gian-Luca
Mexican photographer, I guess? As I wonder why are there two pictures of Mexicans celebrating but none of Canadians, when we won the game! In any event, there is a big black & white photo of some of the boys congratulating Wagnaar in today's National Post sports section, for those of you who want to check it out (though the photo caption has the names in the wrong order). Irritantingly the Toronto Star didn't have any coverage (despite mentioning in yesterday's paper that the game was going to be played).
canso
Saw the result in the Globe but didn't believe it until I read it here. Further proof that The Voyageurs are the only credible soccer media in Canada!

Grizzly
Sportsnet didn't even mention it although they had a feature on the women's training camp and Pellerud. Not that I am complaining about the women's story but one would think they could have at least mentioned the U-20 score after the report.

Aside from the fact that Sportsnet is (was) supposed to be the official broadcaster of the CSA and Canadian soccer, it is a damn shame that the one sports network dedicated to covering soccer (however marginally) cannot even mention the fact our U20s won. This was no small feat. This is newsworthy, even if it only gets a mention in passing. Aside from Neil and a few others, the sports media in our country is bloody pathetic. Hey, you might hate soccer or feel threatened or bored by it, but these are our lads! Canada won! Does it matter the sport.

Not that I'm disagreeing, but it was mentioned on the Soccercentral episode later that night. Gyaki's name was even pronounced Guy-Aki.
Grizzly
It was mentioned on Soccercentral but I think this is definitely big enough news to warrant mention on the regular sports news especially if they can have a five minute story (which was quite good) on the women's camp. They don't have time to mention a major victory by a Canadian national team although they are begging for news to replace the usual 10 to 15 minutes of NHL coverage? Then the country's one soccer specific show mentions the result but does not show any highlights. How much would it have cost to buy the highlights to a U-20 qualifier especially compared to what they are paying for all the European soccer highlights they show? Pretty poor showing for any sports network let alone the one that is the official network of our soccer federation. Its amazing to think how easy it is for US college sports to get national coverage in Canada but our national teams in soccer and many other sports operate in a media vacuum.
