Dandal
Tyler Hughes will join Atiba Hutchinson's old club Östers IF for a try-out directly after the canadian national team camp in january. Öster, presently in swedish 1st division (2nd level), is looking for a new left back that can help them regain a spot in the premier division. According to a local newspaper (http://smp.se/article.php?args=489018,102;0;0;0 ) Hughes also have an offer "from a club in the american league", but Öster's management is in no doutb that he'll choose Europe if it comes to that. Ivan
No Alberto. Dylan plays for Kaiserslautern and may partner Julian as Canada's strike force at the U20s.
Winnipeg Fury
Speaking of Osters (Mark Watson's old club), they had Jamie Peters trial with them last season and turned him down for a contract. I guess they are loaded with talent.

Well, they didn't exactly turn Jamie Peters down, but they thought that the kid should have a youth contract: quote:Originally posted by Dandal in The Atiba Situation-thread 15 months ago Jamie Peters, the 16 year old on Canada's olympic team who just returned from a week long try-out with Östers IF, now has an offer from the club to join as a trainee. The club has a program that will let Peters complete his high school education while training football at a professional level. Peters impressed highly on Öster's management. They call him "extremely talented" and also reveals that Manchester City wanted to sign Peters, but ran into the usual work permit obstacles. Dandal
In an interview with a local radio station Öster's head coach says that Tyler Hughes is what he has been looking for and hopes to finalize a contract within a few days. Go here: http://www.sr.se/Kronoberg/nyheter/artikel.asp?artikel=549260 and click on the link if you're up to listening at a bit of swedish with a short Tyler Hughes interview by the end. Dandal
Tyler Hughes has agreed on a 3 year contract with Östers IF, writes local daily Smålandsposten. Other swedish clubs, including premier division ones, has shown interest after his performance in the training tournament last weekend, but he decided to give Öster a first chance to present an offer. Appearently it was good enough. Hughes hopes to be able to move on to a bigger club if he does well with Öster.

Andrew W
The obvious question is: The Lynx keep landing these players in Europe, yet they really aren't and really haven't been a very good team. What is the problem, because obviously the raw materials have been there.
Daniel
Yeah, but they probably need the $$$ to stay afloat every year... The problem is simple: they keep on selling off their good players before they can build a solid team.
Grizzly
I think one reason for this is that the Lynx don't have the budget to sign established/a bit past their prime veterans like the Whitecaps do but can afford to sign talented, promising but inexperienced young players. The negative side of this is that they have a poor to mediocre team. The positive side is these young players have lots of chance to make the team and get a decent amount of playing time which helps their development. Unfortunately for the Lynx once these players start showing their potential they usually have to sell them. The Lynx are a great model for a development team with the purpose of producing Canadian talent although this is probably an unintended result of lack of financial resources. The Whitecaps are a model of a professional soccer team concerned with its own interests in fielding a competitive team. In the long run the Whitecaps model will probably do more for Canadian soccer if there are enough similar teams but in the present poor state of the pro game in Canada, the Lynx have developed more players than the Whitecaps. The Impact are probably a good balance between the two team concepts.
Gian-Luca
I agree with what Grizzly said, and while having a development team in great for Canadian soccer, the rather large market of Toronto should really have owners capable of producing a team that can also challenge for championships. Ivan
Note to Lynx: Kassaye and Schiavoni from the U20s are still unattached.
Andrew W
I find it interesting that two of Canada's three USL Div. I teams are likely two of the top four model organizations in the league.
