analyst
The Caps put in a decent performance vs Minnesota. The Caps lack of offence came through again, and coupled with a goaltending mistake, resulted in the first loss. The team is an enigma this year. They have a great record so far, but they have played horrible opponents, beating or drawing teams down in the standings. They have also benefitted from some great scheduling, playing visiting teams at the end of road trips after Seattle and Portland have tired them out. As well some of the opposing teams were missing players stuck on the other side of the Canada U.S. border, or with indoor commitments. The last WFP paper had an editorial by Krammerhead about the Caps horrible offence, only to have Jason Jordan go on a tear against two weary opponents. Krammerheads editorial was accurate, but the timing was unfortunate. This Friday, the Caps play a decent oponent, vs Portland. This game will give us a better idea if Coach Lilley's defensive system can compensate for a poor offence. The result will go a long way towards answering questions about the Caps title hopes. Does anyone know what happened to the Caps new stadium plans? Last week Gordon Campbell said he is in favour of spending public taxpayers money on a new stadium to benefit private companies. I guess subsidies are okay if your business friends are getting them. Before we entrust any public money to Lenarduzzi's gang, lets look into the problems the Caps are having with the new artificial turf field at S.F.U. Seems like they had it installed by the lowest cost builder and its a mess. Someone high up in the Caps office was asleep on that project.

Guest Ed
Great to hear that Alex Bunbury is doing well and enjoying life in Minnesota. Alex was always a total class act for us. He was alone as the only Cdn top flight outfield player for many years in the mid to late 90s.

ditty
quote:Originally posted by The Ref And let me add, undeservendly ignored by Holger Osieck's arrogance. So true, Ed. I remember Pesch was causing a minor stir in the English 2nd and 1st divs at the time but Bunbury was a bonafide superstar in Portugal. Wasn't he Foreign Player of the Year at one point? As for Osieck, I believe Bunbury was invited once to a camp and declined because of business commitments. That was it. In fairness, Bunbury was at the end of his career by then but agreed that it was sad to see his Canada career end so abruptly and not on his terms. Calgary Boomer
Bunbury lost his job at West Ham because he was forced to choose between club and country. He chose Canada. Bunbury never got along with some of the other Canadian Strikers, in particular Pesch and Carlo.
Blue and White Army
I'm afraid it's already offline! I'll be moving house this weekend anyway. I plan to tape this Friday's Vancouver-Portland match, but expect a considerable delay before it's offered.
