Jeremy Loome
Hey all, The aviators have released their roster for training camp starting this week. I'm at work and don't have time to type it all in right now, but if no one posts it before I get a chance, I'll do so in an hour or so when I get home. Jeremy Loome
Okay, sorry about that, had to work and all 8) They've split the Chilean 'b' tema it into two squads for camp but I'll just lump everyone by position, with last club: G - Jose Luis Campi, 33, Puerto Montt (chile) G - Nick Stankov, 24, Vancouver, Pacific Coast League G - Ryan Callaway, 24, NAIT Ooks, 2001 team MVP G - Chris Dadain, 24, University of Milwaukee G - Jordan Robinson, 23, University of VIctoria D - Liam DeSilva, Calgary Storm D - Enzo Ferrari, 22, last club I could find was Palestino, Chilean 1 div. SoccerAge says he made it into at least one game as sub. D - Claudio Salinas, 30, Colo Colo (Chilean 1 div) D - Kwame Telemaque, 23, Ottawa Wizards D - Chris Devlin, 30, Alberta Major League D - Rick Titus, 35, Charleston Battery, D - Kurt Bosch, 28, Calgary Storm D - Philip Thiele, n/a/, University of Memphis M - Jaime Lopresti, 30, Colo Colo, Chilean 1 div. Several caps for chile during WC qualifying and they've given him number 10. Preliminary report at the paper is this is suprising, he has major talent and could play in bigger leagues easily. Maybe it'a an age thing or he wants to retire here or something. Maybe he has one of those "personal services" jobs with a friend of the club. M - Niki Vignjecvic, 33, Toronto Lynx? M - Vikram Kaushal, 21, AML EDmonton Scottish M - Eric Munoz, 26, Edmonton Drillers M - Chris Lemire, 21, Calgary Storm M - Sean Fraser, 23, University of Memphis M - Gordon Chin, 20, Vancouver Whitecaps M - Daniel Drummond, n/a/, AML Edmonton Victoria M - Paul Dhaliwal, 22, Bowling Green University M - Carmello Rago Jr, 17, Puertto Mont (chile, with youth team, I think) M - Chris Kooy, n/a/, AML Calgary Celtic M - Willy Gonzalez, n/a/, AML Edmonton Chile M - Ceasar Molina, 18, Local kid. Don't know anything of him. M - Tom White, n/a - Came through Norwich youth system, last playing record I could find was Cambridge City of the Doc Martens league. F - Kevin Nelson, 26, Ottawa Wizards F - Charles Gbeke, n/a, Ottawa Wizards F - Damian Pottinger,22, Duquesne University, F - Desmond Taiki, 19, Capliano College, B.C. F - Stephan Spencer, 25, Concordia College, Edmonton F - Freddy Akok, n/a/, AML Edmonton Italia. F - Mark Slade, n/a/, AML Calgary Celtic Discuss! Guess the Whitecaps' match against the Aldergrove U-18s was his last for Vancouver. And I had thought he fed other players well... quote:Originally posted by Jeremy Loome F - Charles Gbeke, n/a, Ottawa Wizards Hahah, enjoy that one! An Observer
They seem to have a reasonably good roster for a first year team.... Good luck to them.
Champs
damn..........they have a realy good team. The lynx's roster is nowhere near that. They have so many young talent.
Ryan Keay
quote:Originally posted by Champs damn..........they have a realy good team. The lynx's roster is nowhere near that. They have so many young talent. The Canadians on the Lynx roster are notably more accomplished than Edmontons. I cant speak for the foreign slots since, well, I havent seen many of them play. There are probably only three or four players from that roster Id be interested in for the Lynx, and only one of them would qualify as "young talent". martin lechelt
I am thrilled to see Niki Vignjecvic back. He was the closest thing to a god that the indoor Drillers had. Huge fan favourite. Hope he can work some magic outside.

As an outdoor player, he has exceptional ball skills, good vision and takes a quality free kick. Just don't expect him to run, jog or sweat. On occassion he will break into a brisk stroll, working the crowd into a frenzy.
Jeremy Loome
I'm probably still gonna do some columns on the team even if I don't get to cover them full-time this summer. Anyone who can break down the relative strengths and weaknesses of as many of these guys as possible?

DoyleG
Ongaro is on a bit of a media push over the past couple of days. He was on "Inside Sports" on 630 CHED last night. He was on "Sportstalk with John Short" on the TEAM 1260 tonight.
martin lechelt
Anyone know of web archives for the broadcasts mentioned? Doyle, did Ross say anything of particular note? Nice weather (NOT) for training camp. I wonder how the players are making out in the snow??

Looks like they cherry picked a few of the best players from the Ottawa Wizards - I guess that makes the Aviators my new favourite team in the A-League! (At least untill Ottawa gets a team.) Kwame was the lynchpin of the Wizards defence in every match I saw him play - a big, strong centre-back with decent speed who reads the play well, stays composed, moves the ball out of his own end effectively and even takes a lot of free kicks. He should do well in the A-League. I also liked what I saw from Sean Fraser when he played for Canada here in Ottawa at the 2001 Franchophone Games. He was lightning bolt on the wing and offensive oriented. I hope Fox Sports World Canada carries a few Aviators matches this season.
