Gian-Luca
Match starts now. Lets hope the boys give it their all, get some goals, and a win. For some this could end up being the last time they'll get a chance to represent their country, as not everyone at the Olympic level graduates to the National team. jonovision
Bold prediction: Canada 2 - 1 Panama, goals for Friend and Hutchinson. Am I to assume that there is nowhere online where we can follow this match?

Gian-Luca
None that I can find. I've been looking all over, but haven't heard any updates. Probably starting the 2nd half now.
Gian-Luca
All right, that's the first update we've been given - Oppong is playing!
DJT
How stupid is it that we can get a photo but not a score? I mean that photo is about 18,000 bytes while a score would take 2 or 3!
Gian-Luca
Someone's posted a radio link on the other forum and its working intermittently for me - someone just scored.....can't figure out who. Bloody Panama just scored.

Gian-Luca
Its 2-1 Panama in the 2nd half, would you believe.
DJT
They just said it's 2-1 for Panama in the 35th of the second half. At least I think that's what they said. EDIT: G-L beat me by 11 seconds, but I least now I know I heard correctly.
Gian-Luca
Oliveiri is in net, sounds like Savaria is playing as well. Those are the only Canadian names I've heard.
Gian-Luca
Sounds like Williams & Masciantonia are playing as well.
DJT
I heard Chris Williams and Masciantonio. 40th minute now. EDIT: Forget it, I'll let G-L post everything!
Guest Dave
Oh man, if we lose to Panama... I can't understand how on the one hand we keep developing better players, yet our results just keep getting worse. There was a time when a game vs Panama was virtually a "gimme"
SeanKeay
Hey, come on Dave.... Canada doesnt have a song written by Van Halen do we? Thats why they are going to win... DUH
Gian-Luca
Well, if there's any doubt on whether Twamley should go its pretty well being eliminated by this final match. I realize it is a meaningless game, and Panama has allegedly improved, but even so, a last-place finish would be unacceptable.
Gian-Luca
The match is over & I think it ended 2-1.
Guest Dave
Unacceptable is right. What's next, losing to Belize this summer? Ah crap...
Gian-Luca
My link was fading in & out so it might not be the final score - but frankly 2-2 would still put us in last since Panama will have score more goals. I think Yallop needs to announce a March friendly, and soon, to get this negative feeling exterminated. We had a nice run started there with the U20's doing well & then a first win under Yallop, but this has put an end to that positive vibe.
hamiltonfan
Thats a horrilble result. I really thought more of our U23 team. G-L is right Yallop needs to call a Mrach frienldy!!!
Guest Dave
Going back as far as I can remember, right back into the early 80s, we used to routinely beat everyone in the region except for Mex, and we were probably slightly better than CR and Honduras. Teams like Panama and Cuba were a joke, and Jamaica wasn't much better. This is embarassing and degrading. Losing to teams like Panama and Cuba should never happen. I hesitate to criticize our players, but come on. Something is very wrong here, and has been for several years.
Gian-Luca
The only way this could be excused is if we find out that Panama's roster is actually made up players who are all with Brazilian & Argentinian clubs or something. And that's really reaching. Otherwise, even without a lot of our better players in this match, looking at where our players play at the club level, this match comes down to our players not playing as well, either individually or together, which comes down to the coach. Guest Dave
I sincerely hope you are right G-L. The alternative explanations are not pleasant to contemplate.

We never actually used to "routinely beat everyone except Mexico". Our full national team had never beaten Honduras until 1985, and it was a draw with Cuba that prevented us from qualifying for the 1982 World Cup. That's not to say this result isn't unacceptable.
