Peschfan
Sheffield United Knock out Cardiff with a 1-0 victory. Pesch came on in the 64th minute. Tranmere almost shock Bolton but a late Equaliser earned Bolton a replay. Hume played 85 minutes. Watford scares Chelsea taking the lead on them twice but Chelsea scrape a replay with a 2-2 draw. No Elliott Godfrey involved though. Brennan starts for Norwich against Everton, Radz starts on the bench for this one. Jason De Vos starts for Wigan against West Ham. Lars Hirschfeld gets a spot on the bench against Crystal Palace. QPR, Plymouth, Bury and Wycombe have all been knocked out of the cup but are in league play today. Bircham starts for QPR against Rushden and Diamonds. No Jason Bent for plymouth against Chesterfield as Argyle go 5-0 up inside the first 18 minutes! No Mark Rogers for Wycombe against Grimsby. Terry Dunfield starts with Justin Thompson on the bench for Bury against Lincoln City.

canadiankick97
In the Wigan/West Ham game, apparently Jason De Vos was the last Wigan player to touch the ball before the West Ham own goal. He crossed the ball from the left side and one of the West Ham players deflected it in. So I guess we can say that JDV kinda/almost scored?! marcl_19
if only it was like hockey, then he woulda gotten credit for it.......just to bad they lost. Im pretty happy bout Brennen scoring, tho the fact that Norwich lost is sorta bittersweet, since they lots to everton. Was brennen playin left wing, or left back in the game? domdick
All I have to say is that we were very lucky to pick up the three points against Rushden and Diamonds today (last night). For your information Marc Bircham missed a shocking open goal, he had beaten the keeper, but he blazed his shot over the bar. Anyway, we are still second, so thats what counts. I'm watching Hockey Night In Canada at the moment, (great coverage by the way). I'd just like to say that TOR shouldn't be losing to BUF on the form that they have been showing lately. Happy new year to all you voyagers anyway.
Gian-Luca
Toronto came back for the tie, despite having yet another key player (Nolan) injured at the start of the match. Nice to see the Leafs getting some coverage over there, and Happy New Year to you as well!

Guest Jeffery S.
Fernando Aguiar had a tough half, took a yellow, and was subbed out at the break with the score 0-2, as Benfica ended up losing 1-3 to Sporting at home. They fall off the pace as if Porto wins today they'll be 9 back. Petit, who subbed in for him, was sharper, and Fernando is going to have to work hard to keep his spot in the midfield. Guest Jeffery S.
In Scotland this weekend, McKenna's Hearts were frozen out of their match. In Div. One Xausa started for faltering Falkirk, who lost 2-0 to Raith Rovers. Davide blew a sure goal by hitting weakly straight at the keeper, in what would have tied it at one in the 2nd half, but the home side got their second to secure the win. Emilio Bottiglieri started as usual for Morton who lost to Dumbarton 1-0, though they remain well in front in Division Two.

Guest Jeffery S.
Draw for the next FA Cup round, to be played Jan 24-25. Radzinski's Everton faces another EPL team, Fulham, while Peschosolido's Sheffield Utd faces Div 1 challenger Nottingham Forest. If Hume's Tranmere can get past their replay at Bolton next Tuesday they'll have an easier go of it away to Luton. Lars is still waiting for an official start with troubled Spurs, who have a replay away to Leicester before seeing equally mired Man City. I am not sure what his (DD) contract status is, or if he could get a work permit. I know he was to attend a trial with Nottingham Forest two years ago, but a Gold Cup injury curtailed that. I was actually just doing the Canadian Message board thing with the answer. Would Wigan be needing a fast skill guy or a bigger target forward? And are you likely to acquire one. Would Wigan be needing a fast skill guy or a bigger target forward? And are you likely to acquire one. We're basically arter someone who can stick 20 goals in the net consistantly. So really we need a skillful, speedy player in my opinion - although the manager might want a target man to convert some crosses. As long as you are in the top 75 ranked national teams in the world and he's played 75% of your previous 10 competetive internationals then he'd get a work permit. Sometimes they even get permits if the fall below the requirements because they've been injured etc. I know JDV doesnt need a work permit as i believe he holds a Dutch passport which he was able to get as one of his grandparents was from the Netherlands. Guest Jeffery S.
Kevin McKenna is out of Hearts game at Dundee this eve with a back injury. The game is being played after it was postponed for field conditions on the weekend. In other Hearts news, the team stadium has been ruled inappropriate for future UEFA matches because of the irregular pitch size. Hearts was allowed to play their UEFA cup matches there this year I think though.

Guest Jeffery S.
More keepers. Simon Rayner was in the nets as Port Talbot took their first league loss since October on Jan 3, 1-0 to Caersws. Seems though he had a good game from the Port Talbot website report: http://thetownteam.bravepages.com/1stcaer030104 Russell Wigley returned to a place on the bench as Mark Jones kept the same side from the week before. Caersws started the better of two sides and kept up their momentum for the opening half as Port Talbot failed to perform in a very disappointing display. Goalkeeper Simon Rayner was called into action a number of times and pulled off a series of fine saves to keep the score level as Caersws continued to pressure. The home side took a deserved lead on 39 minutes when a corner was scrambled home by striker Graham Evans as they went into half time with the advantage. Port Talbot improved in the second half but still had to thank Rayner for keeping them in the match while Craig Hughes had a golden chance to level the score but his close range effort was saved. Substitute Russell Wigley then almost scored but his well hit shot sailed over the bar. A late seige on the Caersws goal was not enough for Port Talbot however as the home side held on for the result.
Blue and White Army
On January 6th, Elliott Godfrey scored during the match and successfully converted during post-match penalties to help lead the Watford Reserves over Bishop's Stortford to the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Cup. Match reports below from the official Watford and Bishop's Stortford websites. Apparently Godfrey's three-year contract is also up in March... people on the Watford Mailing List mostly speculate he won't be re-signed, given Watford's current dire financial status. -- BISHOP'S STORTFORD 3-3 WATFORD RES AET http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~471110,00.html Nigel Gibbs' Hornets moved into the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Cup after edging out Bishop's Stortford - who included former FA Cup hero Roy Essendoh - thanks to two Richard Lee saves during a dramatic penalty shootout. Three-all was the final score at the end of extra time after a tie high on quality and finishing played on a superb surface at Stortford's Woodside Park stadium - but three times the Golden Boys had to come from behind to earn their shot at the 12-yard lottery. Blues' impressive midfielder Glen Southam scored twice in the first half only to see his efforts cancelled out before half-time. His opener, in the sixth minute, was a stunning 20-yard volley which flew past Richard Lee, back and looking fresh from his arm injury but having no chance with any of the host's goals. Elliott Godfrey was ruled off-side moments later when touching home Jason Norville's flick-on then the latter ran 30 yards before forcing a low save from Micky Desborough in the Stortford goal. Watford suggested a goal was likely and it came on 16 minutes, Gary Fisken's superb cross-field pass setting Ashley Young free to speed forward, step inside a challenge and curl a low shot expertly into the far corner. It took only three minutes for Southam to restore Stortford's lead, though. With ex-Arsenal striker Martin Hayes in charge, the home side looked keen on playing a passing game and, from one such flowing move, Southam made an extra man on the right before pressing towards goal with purpose to beat Lee's dive with an another fine finish. However just as the Blues looked to be heading into the interval ahead, the Hornets responded with some neat one-touch play of their own to set up Norville for yet another well-executed finish in the game - the Trinidad & Tobago international beating Desborough low to his right with a left-foot curler from an angle 12 yards out seconds before the break. Young had Desborough beaten all ends up shortly into the second-half but the tricky winger saw his 30-yard stinger cannon behind off the outside of the far post. Then Norville flicked goalwards after Nathan Boothe had headed on Young's corner but a Stortford defender hacked clear from the goal-line. Debutant Carl Drew put Hayes' side ahead for a third time on 58 minutes, heading home a dangerous inswinging free-kick from close-range. But Blues' confidence seemed to drop when a pre-arranged substitution saw keeper Desborough depart to be replaced by a seemingly inexperienced sub in Richard Hayward. Twelve minutes from time, Gibbs' lads were back on terms yet again. Hayward - a la Jens Lehmann for Arsenal - was caught trying to clear by Godfrey's outstretched boot and the Canada Under-20 striker, reacted quickest to the loose ball, sidestepped the scrambling goalie to slot into an empty net. Two tiring sides offered little in terms of goal-mouth action in extra-time. Essendoh could have reprised his Wycombe cup heroics but headed wide when it was easier to score then Fisken lobbed a stranded Hayward but full-back Anthony Allman covered to fashion a hurried clearance. A draw was a fair result but, with the tie in need of settling, the cluster of 250 partisan home support gathered behind the goal selected for the shootout. Godfrey scored but Fisken blasted over before Lee save from Southam allowing skipper Sam Swonnell to make it 2-2. Both Young and his opposite number converted before Lee saved again from Gary McKeown to leave sub Hameur Bouazza to beat Hayward with the decisive tenth spot-kick. Watford: Lee; Herd, Mariappa, Boothe (Coyne 64), Chapman (Martin 102); Fisken, Swonnell, Blizzard, Young; Norville (Bouazza 112), Godfrey. Subs not used: Graham, Diafutua. -- Bishop's Stortford 3-3 Watford (AET) Watford win 4-3 on penalties (Watford Cleaning Supplies Senior Challenge Cup Quarter Final) http://www.stortfordfc.co.uk/reports.htm#wat Reporter - Luke Stapleton The Blues put in a good performance but were beaten by the lottery of a shoot-out at Woodside Park in this Herts Senior Cup quarter-final. Watford, as expected, fielded a reserve team with little first team experience, but with no little ability as some of their passing and movement throughout the game showed. It was, in fact, the Blues who took the lead as early as the 6th minute. Allman played a lofted ball to Carl Drew whose cushioned header dropped kindly for Glen Southam, who volleyed past Richard Lee in the Watford goal. Almost immediately Watford thought they had equalised, but Dominic Blizzard’s ‘goal’ was ruled out for offside. Instead the eventual equaliser came 17 minutes in. Gary Fisken played a long switched ball to Ashley Young who ran at the home defence and placed the ball beyond Micky Desborough. Three minutes later Stortford had regained the lead. Dave Rainford fed the ball into the path of Glen Southam with the outside of the box, and the midfielder wasted no time in firing past Lee. With the first half running out Roy Essandoh was scathed down in the box by Lee for a certain penalty, but the referee brought play back for an earlier offside with Lee thankful to escape punishment. From the resultant free-kick Watford started a good team move that eventually saw the extremely promising Jason Norville slot past Desborough. The second half settled down a little, with Watford almost taking the lead with a Young shot hitting the post, but it was the Blues who took their third lead just before the hour, Carl Drew, in his first start, heading home an Allman free-kick. With ten minutes to go, and with the Blues looking fairly comfortable substitute ‘keeper Richard Hayward controlled the ball from a back-pass, but gave the ball away to Elliot Godfrey who rounded the embarrassed goalie to score and force extra-time. With the extra half-hour not producing any goals it was left to a penalty shoot-out to decide the tie. With the score at 2-1 to the Blues Fisken fired well over. Glen Southam stepped up to increase the lead, but his penalty was saved by Lee. With all Watford’s penalties finding the net after this, and McKeown missing it was left to Bouazza to settle the tie, which he did, his penalty just squeezing under Hayward, with the Blues only able to take a good performance out of the match, with their passing and movement at times easily matching that of their young professional opponents. Bishop’s Stortford: Desborough (Hayward, 64), Allman, Kyriacou, Rainsford©, Cooper, Barnett (Renner, 68), Riches, Southam, Essandoh, Drew (Bunn, 61), McKeown. Subs not used: Beale, Parker.
