Germany Friday

Nsaliwa played 90 as Jahn Regensburg defeated Karlsruhe 3-0 in Karlsruhe. Second win in as many games under their interim coach, Gunter Brandl, following the firing of Ingo Peter. Canizales did not play in the 3-1 victory of the Bremen reserves over Kiel.

In the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen have another derby with longtime rivals Hamburger SV on Saturday (live on FSWC). Paul Stalteri will be starting at left back and Bremen, in second place, will be looking for a win to keep pace with unbeaten VfB Stuttgart who lead the league.

Also on Saturday, Julian de Guzman will start in the midfield for Hannover 96 as they host promoted SC Freiburg. A win is needed as the Hannover side have dropped two in a row and now is the time to pull away from the lower echelon prior to the Christmas break.

In the Bundesliga 2, Tam Nsaliwa had a strong game today (Friday) setting up the first goal by Hutwelker (also an ex-Saarbruecken player) as his club Jahn Regensburg won their second in a row, 3-0 over SC Karlsruhe (featuring young Yank striker Conor Casey). Tam's team has pulled itself out of relegation territory with the 6 points and now sit mid-table.

In the Regional League North, Werder Bremen amateurs beat Holstein Kehl 3-1 today. Maycoll Canizales is injured and was unable to play.

Don't know whether Victor Oppong will be playing with the senior Saarbruecken team tomorrow or the amateurs. The full 1. FC Saarbruecken team plays 1. SC Feucht tomorrow in the Regional League South. They remain in second place in the league but are decimated by injuries. The reserve 1. FC Saarbruecken II team playes tomorrow away to FSV Salmrohr. The reserve side sit in 3rd place in the Oberliga Southwest.

In the Junior Bundesliga, Jeremy Shepherd and Hertha BSC Berlin's U19s host VfL Wolfsburg tomorrow, while Dylan Hughes and the U19s of 1. FC Kaiserslautern host 1860 Muenchen on Sunday. The anticipated Hughes/Ledgerwood showdown will have to wait for the return match in May when the Munich side are home as young Nik is away with our U20s.

Here's to our U20s seeing success next week as they take on Australia and the Czech Republic in Group C play in Dubai.

In England, one wonders if De Vos will get his starters place back after today's match as Wigan are crushed 4-0 by West Ham, De Vos starting on the bench, not sure if he came on at any point in the match. Also not sure if Pesch played in Sheffield United's 2-0 win - he started on the bench, & the match reports aren't up yet on the BBC site.

Best news of all today might be the appearance on the subs bench by Brennan for Norwich. They won 1-0, not sure yet if he played but he's finally healthy enough to play after a lengthy period of injury.

In the English 2nd division, no Canadians played, with Hume in the UAE, Bent injured, Bircham possibly injured & I suspect Rogers simply not being dressed. Tranmere, Plymouth & QPR all won, Wycombe lost & remain in last.

Dunfield started for Bury in the English 3rd division as they lost 1-0 to Nash's old team Macclesfield. No sign of Justin Thompson.

DeVos came on 42' (I think) played a half in any event.

Brennan came on at 66'.

To add to your post, Brennan came on in the 66th minute for Norwich. De Vos also made an appearance for Wigan, entering in the 42nd minute, with Wigan alright down 1-0, down to 10 men and facing a penalty which made it 2-0. He played the rest of the match, and Wigan played most of the second half at 9 men.

De Guzman ends up playing 90 minutes again for Hannover as they beat Freiburg 3-0.

Stalteri also played 90 minutes as Bremen drew 1-1 with Hamburg. Paul picked up a yellow card.

Stalteri had an active game. Several nice runs, two of which could have resulted in goals. Ailton missed an absolute sitter on one. The Hamburg goal came off a free kick from a Stalteri foul, and late inthe game Paul cleared one off the line that may, or may not, have been a handball. The Ref gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Everyone's favourite Canadian International, Richard Hastings, appears to have scored in the first minute of Maastricht's match against Veendam although he is listed as Heestings on LiveScore which may be the Dutch spelling. Maastricht is leading 2-1 at the half.

This game finished 2 all. Hastings scored in the 3rd minute lmfao. I guess this means he'll be on the starting eleven for every one of Canada's games next year.

In the Bundesliga 1, Paul Stalteri and Werder Bremen are still 2 pts behind VfB Stuttgart today, with a 1:1 draw in Hamburg. Stalteri made a good play early in the 2nd half stabbing the ball out for a corner ahead of two Hamburg players, avoiding a sure go ahead goal for Hamburger SV. The replay was inconclusive later as he may have saved one on the line with his arm, no handball was called.

Julian de Guzman and Hannover 96 had a comfortable 3-0 home win over SC Freiburg to move up a spot to 9th place.

1. FC Saarbrucken drew 1:1 with SC Feucht, without Victor Oppong who likely was with the reserves in a 3-1 win over FSV Salmrohr (no report as yet).

Jeremy Shepherd played up front for 90 minutes as Hertha BSC Berlin U19s drew VfL Wolfsburg 1-1 at home.

Guest Jeffery S.

Michael Klukowski played 90 as La Louvière fell away to La Gantoise 3-0 in Belgian action. The team is tied for sixth spot with five other teams.

In Austria, Ante Jazic played the whole thing as Rapid Vienna came back with a man down to draw Mattersburg 1-1. The team however, has lost the league leadership it had held from the beginning of the season, as Austria Vienna has moved past them.

Today Sunday, the game for Imhof in Switzerland is one of the few Canadian apprearances. Both Hearts and Hibs play in Scotland.

He cam on after 43 mins. We had 2 players sent off including Matt Jackson who has been captain while De Vos was out injured. Jackson will get a 3 game suspension so De Vos will get his chance because he's the only other senior centre-back we have.

Note that Jeremy Shepherd is with the U19s of Hertha Berlin, as was previewed in an earlier post. One of the problems with this forum is that all posts in a thread just appear in one long narrative. You lose the tracking of reponses to posts within the thread.

DJT: I fixed it in the post above (one of the benefits of this forum :))

The last two Canucks were knocked out of the NCAA division I men's tournament as Jordie Hughes' and Coastal Carolina were beaten 3-2 in OT by Santa Clara. Hughes didn't hit the mark for the first time in the post-season.

The only other Canadian, Gavin Hobbs and his Washington Huskies lost 3-2 in OT to St. Louis. Unfortunately for the Vancouver native it was a defensive error that led to the OT winner.

The good news is they are both sophomores.

Bircham didn't play for us because he was suspended for recieving 5 yellow cards in previous games. Can't say we missed him, as be comfortably beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0, and it could have been 5 or 6.

How many of us would have thought , that Sheff Wed and QPR would meet in Div 2 10 years ago
