The Ref
In the women's side Mexico reached the finals together with Chile. However the world famous Christiane Endler, goalkeeper for Chile, resigned the National team on the eve of the final game. The Chilean Coach did not anticipated this and because their 2nd goalkeeper is also gone, the team will have to face Mexico perhaps using a field played assuming the position of goalkeeper. red card
The FIFA window ended on Tuesday. So, someone should have known Endler was going back to France and/or negiotated with Paris FC to extend stay with the national team till Friday. The #2 keeper had to return to Valencia because their #1 got injured. A third keeper wasn't part of the squad. 2 other players also returned to their clubs which meant only 3 subs left on the bench. ANFP president Mildad took no responsibility but said manager and others will need to explain. As we have seen across women's football, this looks like a mix of incompetence, lack of funds and less attention paid to the women's team relative to the men's team. Mexico wins gold 1-0 while US took bronze. Edited November 4, 2023 by red card The Ref
The Ref
"red card" I like your expression " mix of incompetence". At the end Chile played with a tall forward in the position of goalkeeper since the Federation failed to secure a couple of extra days for goalkeepers Canales and Endler quit. In spite of not having a real goalkeeper they only lost by one to Mexico and got the silver medal. Mexico got the gold.
