superbrad
I know most of you dont care....something to read.... http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2009/01/14/fifa-rankings.html European champion Spain remained atop of the latest FIFA rankings published Wednesday by soccer's world governing body. With few teams in action last month and the World Cup qualifiers on hold until February, the Top 14 stayed unchanged as Spain held onto the No. 1 spot for a seventh consecutive month, ahead of Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Brazil. Argentina, Croatia, England, Russia and Turkey round out the Top 10. The only changes in the Top 25 saw Egypt and Nigeria move up one and two spots, respectively, to 15th and 17th. Canada moved up four places to No. 86, sandwiched between Qatar and Congo. At No. 22, the United States is the top team from CONCACAF, the soccer confederation that covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. Canada ranks ninth among CONCACAF nations behind the U.S., Mexico States (No. 26), Costa Rica (No. 47), Jamaica (No. 66), Trinidad & Tobago (No. 73), Cuba (No. 77) and Panama (No. 83). Seven countries, including Guam, San Marino and Papua New Guinea, were tied for last at No. 201. The next FIFA rankings will be published Feb. 11. USA is the best team in CONCACAF atm. What has Mexico done in the past 5 years that warrants them 13? They didn't even finish first in our group... lost in the Gold Cup final the year before. Had a good Copa America that is about it.

Check out the site and they explain the methods. As a chess player I was exposed to ELO ratings and understood that you can lose or gain a maximum of 32 points a game. Mexico has lost 1 ranking spot and 49 ELO points in the last year, the US has gained 12 spots and 43 points (Canada -8 & -61).

Guest speedmonk42
I wonder if there is a plug in for this forum that automatically assassinates any thread about FIFA rankings.
I_AM_CANADIAN
You just know the CSA are going to point to this when they're criticized... 'OK, so we may have crashed out of qualifying without a single win, but we moved up FOUR SPOTS!' As the FIFA rankings mean nothing, it'd probably be better for us to keep going down, it'd put more pressure on the CSA to get their act together.
