Weekend preview:

Friday:

Bundesliga 2:

1860 Muenchen are away to promoted FSV Frankfurt. Nik Ledgerwood took a 2nd caution in the game last Sunday and is suspended for the match. Will play with the reserves on the weekend to keep his match form.

Regional League West:

Eintracht Trier (Kent O'Connor) host FSV Mainz 05 amateurs (Alex Elliott).

Saturday:

Bundesliga 1:

Borussia Moenchengladbach vs FC Koeln. Could be the game of the season to this point for 'Gladbach. Coach Lukuhay will likely be gassed if they do not get a result against their rivals from Koeln. Rob Friend to start for the hosts, Kevin McKenna on the bench for the visitors. Unfortunately no TV coverage here in N. America.

Bayern Munich vs VfL Bochum. Daniel Imhof out for at least a few more weeks but a chance for Dani Fernandes to take the scalp of German hero Juergen Klinsmann. Bayern were humiliated at home by Werder Bremen 2 weekends ago and lost to Hannover 96 last week. A win by Bochum would be the nail in the coffin and there would go Max Bretos' spicy rumour of Landon Donovan going to the German champs. Klinsmann is a huge fan of LD but I think the love for him in Germany ends with the former California resident.

Regional League Nord:

Hansa Rostock amateurs host Hannover 96 amateurs. Ryan Gyaki watch continues.

Hertha BSC amateurs host Energie Cottbus amateurs. Kennedy Owusu-Ansah (Hertha) and Eddie Sidra (Cottbus) watch continues.

Regional League West:

VfL Bochum amateurs (Gianluca Zavarise) host Borussia Moenchengladbach amateurs.

FC Kaiserslautern amateurs host Bayer Leverkusen amateurs (the Zach Kalthoff watch continues).

Regional League South:

Nik Ledgerwood gets a runout with the 1860 Muenchen reserves as they travel to face SV Wehen Wiesbaden reserves.

Sunday:

Bundesliga 2:

FC St. Pauli host Alemannia Aachen, David Hoilett on the bench for St. Pauli.

FC Kaiserslautern are away to TuS Koblenz. No Josh Simpson for K'town but he is back training.

Liga 3:

Eintracht Braunschweig are away to Dynamo Dresden; not sure of the status of Riley O'Neill.

Regional League Nord:

SV Wilhelmshaven and Jonathan Bourgault are away to VFC Plauen.

Regional League West:

Preussen Muenster (Massih Wassey) are away to Wormatia Worms.

Solid 3-0 victory for 1860 Muenchen over newcomers FSV Frankfurt today, only their 2nd win of the season.

Good game going on in the Regional League West, as Eintracht Trier and FSV Mainz 05 amateurs are even 1-1. Kent O'Connor going all the way so far with Trier; Alex Elliott on the bench for Mainz.

The Trier keeper brings a man down in his box with 5 mins to go. Straight red and the PK gives Mainz amateurs a 2-1 win. O'Connor 90' on the back line for Trier. Elliott stays on the bench.

Late late winner for FC Koeln as they sneak a 2-1 victory in Moenchengladbach. Rob Friend goes 90 for the losing side, Kevin McKenna a late sub for the winners.

No Imhof but VfL Bochum stun Bayern with a couple of goals in the last few minutes to come away with a 3-3 draw in Munich.

After the 2:1 defeat in the derby against Colone, M´Gladbach fired coach Luhukay. Question is if such an activity is necesary after only 7 game days. Interims coach will be sporting director Christian Ziege

It´s a pitty, as it was the dutch coach who wanted to have Rob Friend.

David Hoilett starts and comes out mid 2nd half with his team en route to a 3-2 win over Alemannia Aachen on Sunday.

FC Kaiserslautern are humiliated 5-0 at Koblenz but are only out of first place on goal difference.

Both Straith and Porter are still with Energie Cottbus U19's, playing 90 min and 60 min resp., on the weekend in the A Junioren Bundesliga. Note that David Hoilett's younger brother, Janeil, is playing in the other elite DFB youth league, B Junioren Bundesliga (U17's); he started and went 90 on the weekend as a striker for FC St Pauli. Ooops, not quite 90, got a 2nd yellow in the 80th. Bit nasty for a striker?

I was hoping for a brief appearance from Josh Simpson but I guess he is not quite ready as no sign of him today as FC Kaiserslautern defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-0 in a friendly. 'Gladbach are in major disarray, having fired their coach last Sunday.

We now resume our regular programming.

Friday

Bundesliga 1

VfL Bochum vs Borussia Moenchengladbach: A western derby with 'Gladbach sure of lots of visiting support. Director Christian Ziege has come down to the field to coach 'Gladbach on an interim basis, following the sacking of Luhukay 2 weekends ago. Imhof is back in training but is not part of the squad. Fernandes faces 'the Giant' Rob Friend.

Bundesliga 2

Josh Simpson is back to training in full gear as his return from a broken foot gets closer to reality. His FC Kaiserslautern team looks to put themselves back in 1st place today as they host Rot Weiss Ahlen. The 'roten teufel' are in 3rd place, tied on points with 1st place FSV Mainz and 2nd place SC Freiburg (also in action today).

Saturday:

Bundesliga 1:

FC Koeln vs Energie Cottbus: McKenna likely on the bench at the start of this match, a great opportunity for Koeln to move up with the leaders as they are currently mid table with 10 points.

Sunday:

Bundesliga 2:

Nik Ledgerwood with the squad but not starting as 1860 Muenchen host SpVgg Greuther Fuerth in a Bavarian derby.

David Hoilett also looking to sub in as FC St Pauli are also down south, visitors to FC Augsburg.

Kaiserslautern continue their good form. Despite going down late in the 1st half, they storm back for a convincing 4-1 victory, moving back into sole possession of 1st place with SC Freiburg losing today and Mainz playing on Sunday.

Friend and company to kick off in 30 minutes.

Friend gets the start, young Yank Michael Bradley tucked in behind him (in his first start).

Found a live stream, courtesy of a poster at Bigsoccer.com, 'Gladbach up 1-0 on the hosts, at half time.

Dani looks pretty good starting in one of the top leagues in the world. F'cking Mitchell.

Now all even at 1-1, with about 20 mins to go.

Both teams score again, Rob Friend goes 90 under the new/interim man (good sign) and a well-deserved 2-2 draw for 'Gladbach.

Not surprisingly, Kevin McKenna stays on the bench as FC Koeln earn a big win in Cottbus, 1-0. They are sitting in 8th spot, but only 3 pts out of 1st (very tight in the B1 to date).

Not bad weekend for the Canucks in Germany.

David Hoilett sets up both goals in FC St Pauli's 3-2 loss to FC Augsburg on Sunday and is rated St Pauli's best player.

Nik Ledgerwood helps his team back from a 1-0 deficit to 3-1 win as he comes in just before the end of the 1st half.

Riley O'Neill is back from injury and getting into game shape with the Eintracht Braunschweig reserves. Scored the opening goal for the amateurs on the weekend.

Jonathan Bourgault plays 90 minutes for SV Wilhelmshaven as they draw 0-0 with Sachsen Leipzig in the Regional League North.

Finally got some news on Eddie Sidra on the Cottbus site; he has been injured to date.

Watch Hoilett in this highlight package. Hits the post from a run on the right (2:10 in), sets up a goal from the left (3:45 in), another great setup (5:10 in), not sure if it was a pass but sets up the goal on a CK (6:50 in) and sets up another great chance (8:30 in) that is saved. He is ready for a call up.
