Friend makes the perfect flick-on header and BM take the 1-0 lead.

All of our strikers are scoring for their clubs right now - Friend, Hume, Gerba, and I think Radz scored for his club in Belgium last week.

Good for Ledgerwood, the best would be to play in the first Bundesliga next year but now his team is far from the top.

It is better for Ledgerwood to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. He needs to establish himself at that level first before moving up and it would be especially bad if he goes up with 1860 and they sign a bunch a top players who push him to the bench. He is not even a regular starter with 1860 in the 2nd BL so it is too soon for him to be with a 1st BL team.

Is he seeing any action at right back anymore, or is he exclusively in the middle of the park?

So far this year Ledgerwood has exclusively been a midfielder. Mostly he is on the left side but he has also played on the right and in the centre. He has played in 7 of their 9 games and started 5 times (3 times 90 minutes, twice subbed out). Kicker has ranked him 3.75 in the German marking system which is out of 6 and the lower the number the better. Kicker marks pretty tough and a 3.75 would be decent but not outstanding. He has scored 1 goal and been red carded once as well. The key for Ledgerwood is to stay healthy because it seems like everytime he starts having success he gets a serious injury.

An 'English week' in Germany, with games mid-week.

Tuesday:

Bundesliga 1

Rob Friend to start as Borussia Moenchengladbach are away to VfL Wolfsburg. A win would be enormous as they could vault from 17th to 12th.

Bundesliga 2

Wednesday:

Bundesliga 1

Daniel Imhof still out but Dani Fernandes could knock the surprise leaders out of first place as TSG Hoffenheim visit VfL Bochum. Bochum are in 15th place (just out of relegation territory on goal difference).

Kevin McKenna on the bench as FC Koeln host Borussia Dortmund. Koeln are mid-table in 11th on 13 pts and could vault over 8th place Dortmund with a win.

Bundesliga 2

David Hoilett to start as FC St Pauli are away to the Zebras, MSV Duisburg.

Nik Ledgerwood to start as 1860 Muenchen host TuS Koblenz.

FC Kaiserslautern host VfL Osnabrueck. Looks like Josh Simpson will not be with the team but rather get some action in with another amateur team game as the Kaiserslautern amateurs are away to the Borussia Dortmund amateurs.

Adam Straith scores both goals for Energie Cottbus' U19's as they lose 4-2 to Hannover 96 in A-Junioren (U19) action this weekend. Some discrepancy as the Cottbus site has another scoring the 2nd goal.

'Gladbach goes down 3-0 to a very good Wolfsburg side; their defence does not look strong.

In other leagues, Jonathan Bourgault goes 90 with SV Wilhelmshaven on the weekend in the Regional League North, they play again tomorrow.

Gianluca Zavarise comes on for the last 15' for VfL Bochum amateurs today in a 2-1 loss in the Regional League West (he did not play on the weekend).

And the best news of all, Josh Simpson is subbed out with just a minute remaining as he gets a full game with the FC Kaiserslautern reserves. We will not see him tomorrow but likely this weekend (actually next Monday) vs Nik Ledgerwood and 1860.

David Hoilett starts at outside right midfield for FC St Pauli.

Nik Ledgerwood starts at outside left midfield for 1860 Muenchen.

Both games set to kick off in 5' or so.

Solid wins by FC St Pauli (Hoilett off mid 2nd half, picked up a YC at the end of the first) and by 1860 Muenchen (Nik L goes 90 in another strong effort) moves both teams up the table and FC Kaiserslautern's win combined with SC Freiburg's loss moves the Roten Teufel into 1st place in the Bundesliga 2.

Bochum up 1-0 (Dani F in net) in the first couple of minutes, perhaps they will take the wind out of Hoffenheim's early season 'sail'.

UPDATE:

Hoffenheim show why they are the class of the league to date as they storm back with 3 goals vs Bochum, up 3-1 late. Still no McKenna as Koeln are down 0-1 on a Dortmund goal.

Alex Elliott is getting starts now with FSV Mainz 05 amateurs as he was subbed out on the 60' mark yesterday in a 0:0 draw with SC Preussen Muenster (no Wassey) in the Regional League West.

No sign of Kent O'Connor for Eintracht Trier yesterday in that same league.

Josh Simpson as posted earlier, played almost the entire match for FC Kaiserslautern amateurs against the same from Borussia Dortmund.

Jonathan Bourgault plays 90 minutes again yesterday with SV Wilhelmshaven as they beat Hansa Rostock amateurs 2-0 (no sign of Ryan Gyaki) in the Regional League North.

Players yet to see any action this season: Kennedy Owusu-Ansah of Hertha Berlin, Ryan Gyaki of Hansa Rostock, Zach Kalthoff of FC Kaiserslautern.

Owusu-Ansah really seems to have gone down the pecking order. A couple of years ago when he first went to Hertha he had a few starts for the II side if memory serves correct. He doesn't seem to have played for them for 2 years now. I had big hopes for him but perhaps its not panning out. I see Saiko seems to be starting at right back for Middlesborough reserves and getting good reviews. Thats what we need from Owusu-Ansah

Some guys are 'exposed' so to speak when they are with German clubs. I think there is a tendency to rate players high when they are with pro youth sides (esp. those with UK sides, where they don't play that often or against great competition). But in Germany, as soon as they move up to the reserves or amateurs, they are playing in real leagues, facing clubs that live or die with promotion and relegation. Reality check time. Seems that is what has happened to both Owusu-Ansah and Ryan Gyaki.
