The S****horpe Thread

Saw the thread name and it reminded me of a somewhat bitter joke I heard told first by english punk singer/songwriter Billy Bragg (a West Ham fan), until now the only time I've seen this club's name mentioned:

There are three clubs in the english league with dirty words in their names: S****horpe, Arsenal and Manchester ****ing United.

S****horpe loses again:(, 1-0 away to Mansfield (wherever that is). Canadian born Kevin Sharp gets a yellow card at 90'. After the 8 match winning streak in November and December, a bad spell the last few weeks, two draws followed by two losses (is this part of a grand masterplan to lull Chelski into a false sense of security for this Saturday?:)). The Iron lose first place to Yeovil (wherever that is)...stop the insanity!

It's a conspiracy I tells ya . We the Voyageurs adopt a team in the lowly ranks of League 2 English football ( don't they know the real world calls it soccer ) and what does RSN do they won't even show the Irons vs Chelski. Write your letters , it's an afront to the board. We demand to see S****horpe. Insert all the ads you want! S****horpe , is our team , S****horpe through and through.

The thought of having to watch Burnley v Liverpool , Sheffield United v Aston Villa , Oldham Athletic v The Citizens of Manchester and Plymouth Argyle v Everton in FA Cup play. Soccer fans of Canada rally .....WE WANT S****HORPE......WE WANT S****HORPE....WE WANT S****HORPE.

Chelsea, seven points clear at the top of the Premier League having won their last five matches without conceding a goal, play S****horpe seeking to avenge a shock 6-3 aggregate defeat in the League Cup in 1988 which former Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon remembers only too well.

"It has to be up there with Chelsea's worst-ever defeats," he recalls on the club website. "We were going well at the time and it was a big example of over-complacency."

In goal for S****horpe then was 18-year-old Paul Musselwhite who, after spells at Port Vale and Hull City, will be facing Chelsea again on Saturday.[8D]

S****horpe ready and raring to go

By Paul Fletcher

BBC

Promotion to League One is not as big a jump as people think

S****horpe manager Brian Laws has assembled a squad that he believes is capable of pushing for a play-off place in League One.

The Iron won automatic promotion last season and Laws has since signed experienced players such as Jim Goodwin and Tommy Johnson.

"We have a squad that is covered from every angle," Laws told BBC Sport.

"We have looked at the squad we have got and feel it is more than capable of doing well in League One."

In addition to Goodwin and Johnson, Laws has also brought in Richard Ryan and Richard Hinds - both of whom spent the latter part of last season on loan at the club - on permanent contracts.

Laws also signed experienced midfielder Wayne Corden and Andy Keogh in the latter part of last season.

"Bringing in new players is something that we have been working on for a long time - months and months in advance," added Laws.

"Because we did well in the cup competitions last season we were able to bring in Andy and Wayne earlier than we thought we would.

"We are not talking about just trying to survive. We will push as high as we can and I think we have genuine chances of getting towards the play-offs.

"We feel confident, we have the players to perform in a higher league and ones that are used to winning.

"League One is not as big a jump as people believe. I think there will be a fair majority of us on a level par."

Laws was in charge of the Iron the last time they played in the third tier of English football in 1999-2000.

S****horpe finished the season second from bottom - and Laws thinks his transfer policy over the summer shows that lessons have been learned.

"I recall being in this division the last time we were here and we are far stronger and better equipped this time," he said.

"Last time we lost two of our main strikers in the summer, when we thought they would both sign.

"They said they would sign if we went up but left a month before the new season and as a result we got off to a slow start.

"Now we are in better shape and hope to hit the ground running."

"We're not scared of anyone" - Laws , from BBC site

Nottm Forest 0-1 S****horpe

S****horpe boss Brian Laws says their 1-0 win over former club Nottingham Forest at the City Ground shows they can give anyone a

game in League One.

"I had so many happy years here as a player so it was marvellous for me to come back and get a victory," he said.

"We got to grips with it in the second half and the longer it went on the more it looked like we might get a goal.

"A year ago you would not have imagined we'd play Forest in the league. We've shown we're not frightened of anyone."

The draw for the opening round (all divisions except for Premiership) of the Carling Cup (the League Cup) has happened already, and the competition starts today (Southampton beat Southend away, 0-3).

Tomorrow includes the Milwall / Bristol Rovers match where Milwall has solved their goaltender problem (Keeper Paul Jones is poised to make his Millwall debut after signing on loan as Andy Marshall begins a three-match ban, so Adrian Serioux won't be drafted again). S****horpe plays fellow Div 3 club Tranmere with Hume. Hmmm, between a rock and a hard place as to who to cheer for.

Thanks! The Irons are through - wonder who they'll get in the second round. Here's the match report from the BBC site you linked (love the use of the phrase 'jinking run' btw):

S****horpe 2-1 Tranmere

Richard Hinds scored the winner as Tranmere beat S****horpe in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Billy Sharp's jinking run and cross was converted by Richie Ryan after 58 minutes to put the Iron in front.

Ian Sharps equalised for Rovers three minutes later, tucking away Sam Aiston's cross for Tranmere's first away goal of the season.

Hinds scored the winner from a goalmouth scramble before Sharps hit the woodwork with a curling shot.

Keogh fires S****horpe

Saturday September 3, 2005

The Guardian

S****horpe United, newly promoted to League One, leapt to the top of the table last night when they inflicted a 4-1 hammering at the previous leaders Huddersfield Town.

Two goals from Andrew Keogh laid the foundations for the win, with Peter Beagrie and Matt Sparrow also on target.

Bradford are only three points adrift after strikes from Dean Windass and Mark Bridge-Wilkinson secured a 2-0 win against Chesterfield.

In League Two, the top team Notts County required an Andy White effort only five minutes before the end to earn a 1-1 draw at Darlington.

Stockport registered their first league win of the campaign, returning from Grimsby with a 3-1 success thanks to scores from Matthew Hamshaw, Mickael Wolski and a Justin Whittle own goal.
