bettermirror Posted July 10, 2003 Share Posted July 10, 2003 ok, there must be a way for us to call/e-mail/write the csa and/or holger osieck and demand reasoning behind not having regular home internationals (even if it only includes our local a-league players), & roster exclusions (as selections are obvious!). there must be a way. but the biggest question i want to ask is, "how the hell is it that there is a professional baseball league, but we can't put together a professional soccer league and what are you doing to rectify this? in a country that plays soccer more than any other sport at the youth levels it's time you got your act together and started reaching out to them through the media." bettermirror Posted July 11, 2003 Author Share Posted July 11, 2003 well keeping tactics personal are fine. but reasons for not selecting peschisolido must be shared. could you imagine erikkson or vogts not giving reasons for not selecting beckham or ferguson respectively? not for 10 minutes would that go unquestioned!!!! as for the csa, you are damn right they have to be questioned. being questioned by gerry dobson with scripted answers is not good enough. something must be done. anyone? there ain't gonna be any middle any more. They need to be competent and get accurate information out in a timely manner. The reasons why there have been no home internationals may be out of the CSA's control but they need to explain. Also if our sport is to be taken seriously by the press, press releases need to have up to the minute accurate information and have to be regular. Why does this board get information before the CSA? They could at least have the same information if they read this board. Player selection is the Coach's business. We can question it but even Erickson or Voller would not change their selections because of fan pressure no more than Quinn (olympic hockey) nor some other Canadian national team hockey coach. Bottomline,it is the CSA can choose to replace the coach when it feels that is the best option. At the end of the day, soccer in Canada continues to grow and improve. We may have had a team in the 1986 World Cup but the sport as a whole is in a much better position now than then.. It is time for the CSA to improve its performance to reflect the size and societal importance of the sport it represents. That in itself will generate more media respect..
