Drillers81
Okay, we have the Voyageurs Cup, but that is for the Amway Canadian Championship and gives the winner a berth in CONCACAF Champions League (although Vancouver finally got a Champions League berth without winning it last year). We have three Canadian teams in MLS that play each other at least once per year (three times for Toronto and Montreal). Why not have a prize for the best of the three each year, either based on regular season standings or the results of one match against each of the other two. We could call it the Maple Leaf Shield (get it the MLS). While it's a good bet that it will probably be going back and forth between Vancouver and Montreal, it will likely end up in Toronto (when it passes through the Freight Terminal at Pearson International). Still, I think it would be a nice way of promoting the Canadian teams. Maybe it could be sponsored by Bell or BMO, or both!
tmcmurph
I think it would lead to dilution. Too many awards & champions. Currently we are able to generate interest in the V's Cup because it is a unique Canadian championship. Nice idea but no thanks from me.
ted
So you are suggesting the Cascadia Cup for Canada but with evil coporate sponsorship.
masster
Agree with TMR. I think the focus needs to remain on the Amway Canadian Championship and growing that competition. As we start to get more professional clubs and other teams enter that tournament, maybe then we can look at an MLS specific award.
