...And More

Serioux did not get off the bench in Millwall's 3-1 win over Ipswich. Simpson not even on the bench. De Vos plays 90.

Peschisolido was subbed out in minute 79' for who would be the player to score the match winner (2-1).

Bircham receives a yellow and plays 90 minutes in QPR's loss to Argyle.

Iain Hume scores for Tranmere, and picks up a yellow in their 1-1 draw with Barnsley who scored the equalizer in injury time. Tranmere are now 5 points back of second in League One.

Kevin McKenna plays 90' in Hearts' 2-nil loss to Celtic. Looking at the report it appears as though he played in the back four, not up front.

Yes, he was, but not any more. That mean leave only 3 Canadians playing at a high level, unless people can think of some more. Thats not very many, but then we are #90 in the world.

Aguiar is still playing in the same league with Porto and Benfica, he is on Penafiel, a mid-table team in Portugal's highest division.

Which Canadian players are actually playing at a high level, other than Radzinski, Staltieri and De Guzman. Is Hume's Tranmere team really in First Division?

Are there any Canadians playing for Glasgow Celtic or Rangers or on Benefica or Porto?

This is not the thread for this stuff. If you really want the answers to these questions then see this thread (go to the 8th page for the most up-to-date list), or if you want to make a point about how many Canadians are playing at a high level then start a new thread. This thread is for updates only.

Middlesbrough 2

Norwich City 0

Cameroon international Joseph-Desire Job broke the hearts of brave Norwich City with two goals in two minutes as Boro picked up their drive for a top-five Premiership slot after a disappointing display against Birmingham.

Job, a replacement for injury victim Mark Viduka, took his season goal tally to five as he wrecked City's plans to swamp Boro's attacking ambitions.

Norwich flooded the midfield and kept Boro at bay until Job broke free early in the second half.

Norwich will struggle to survive in the top flight because their goal-shy forwards took so long to get into their stride.

Indeed there were 68 minutes on the clock before Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer was tested when David Bentley forced him into a full length save.

That was City's first shop on target. A record Riverside attendance of 34,836 must have wondered why they weren't at home in front of the telly for their festive entertainment because Boro weren't much better.

Both sides struggled to string anytime of cohesive play together. Indeed when Job contrived to head over the bar on 50 minutes it looked as if Boro would never find the net.

But he made amends two minutes later when City defenders left him unmarked at the far post and Job guided Stewart Downing's free-kick into the net.

Two mins later it was game up for City when Job ran on to a pass from Franck Queudrue and beat City's offside trap.

He guided the ball between the legs of City's unfortunate keeper Robert Green.

For a time Boro threatened to run riot, but Green held the City backline together with a couple of terrific shots to deny Downing and Bolo Zenden.

Green had been in sparkling form in the first half to keep Boro at bay. Despite flapping wildly at a couple of teasing crosses from England prospect Downing, the keeper redeemed himself with a stunning save to deny Job.

City lost Thomas Helveg in the tenth minute after he took a sickening blow to the back of the head from his own team-mate, Gary Doherty.

Jim Brennan went straight into City's stifling formation and the ploy worked well until Job's double strike.

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington praised the commitment of his players after they suffered another defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.

"I was very pleased, particularly with the way we played in the first half.

"We defended very well as a team until we committed two moments of madness. We left Job unmarked to score the first at the far post and then tried to play an offside trap which didn't work for the second.

"Both Leon McKenzie and Danny Crow could have got late goals for us, but that's our trouble, we are making three of four chances and not always scoring while other teams like Middlesbrough have proven goal scorers." Boro boss Steve McClaren described the win as one of the biggest of the season.

He said: "We had to bounce back after that display on Boxing Day. Norwich came with a game plan and made us work very hard, but I knew that if we showed the patience we would get the reward we deserved.

"We have two very tough games coming up against Manchester United and Chelsea and it was important to end the year on a high.

"2004 has been a very good year for Boro and everyone connected with the club but so far this season we have achieved nothing. We have set out our standards and we have to keep on going."
