Why do Canadians care so much about the MLS?

It's been too damned long since we've got to kick some eastern arse in a bit of footy![}:)]

Voyageurs Cup, east vs. west, this season and last season combined:

Montreal + Toronto = 11 wins ... Calgary + Vancouver = 0 wins ... 1 draw

Looks like it's the east doing all the arse kicking!

Dohhp!!!

Well, I don't think the Calgary livestock lovers think any of the lazy, Winnipeg socialists could possible be part of their West (yes, we do giggle when we see cowboy hats on grown men), and since the left coasters can't see through the collective fog from the bongs towards the 'Peg (and you allways thought that warm chinook air come from the mountains, not over them), I'm throwing my lot in with you guys.

edit.

Yeahh!!! We rule, baby!!!

My question is

"Why do Canadians care so much about Man U and Celtic". I'd rather have seen either of them vs an MLS team.

Why? The MLS teams aren't Canadian, so I don't see why support them. If what you want to see is high level gameplay, Man U vs Celtic is a much better option.

Where did he say he supports them? He said that he'd much better see ONE OF THOSE TEAMS vs an MLS side. I'm with him. I'd rather see these teams play a team from the country they are playing in. An MLS side couldn't have done any worse than Celtic did that game. If you are going to go on a cash grab tour of a country you should at least have the decency to play local sides. In fact the US soccer federation used to have a rule about this I believe.

Here in New York nobody cares about MLS, so I doubt that its too big in Canada. The fact the FSW Canada shows a game a week means little. FSW shows a game so its only natural that FSW Canada picks up the feed at a time when little else is going on in the soccer-world (Saturday nights in the summer).

With better leagues out there, why does so many Canadians Soccer fans care so much about the MLS? Are they hopping that one day a Canadian team will be allowed to play on it?

To your original question, Krammerhead had the answer. I would rather see the touring teams play against North American teams.

And in fact I quite like to watch the MLS. Our men's national team has to play against the largely MLS based American team. And it's in my time zone.

Getting up at 5:00am to watch SPL is not my cup of tea. It's not much of a league with only 2 teams.

Pardon the banana cream 3!

I would say that (with the exception of the Old Firm) MLS sides are better than SPL sides. No one is clamining MLS is world class, but it's pretty good. They have some really good players, and some up and coming concacaf stars destined for the big European leagues. I love soccer and support at all levels. I still follow my former college and PDL side. I watch A-league, MLS, EPL, Bundesliga, SPL, MFL,etc.... matches. I think a lot of North American fans are same way.
