Portuguese Sensation
This question may have been asked before and if so, I guess a link to the thread would be appreciated. Why does CONCACAF hold the Gold Cup every two years as opposed to every four years like every other major tournament? Also, is there any incentive to win this year's tournament when you consider that in 2011 the winner would represent the region at Confederations Cup? Blackdude
Only Asia, Oceania and Europe don`t have their contiental championship every 2 years. So it`s not like it`s that much reaching. If Africa and South America do it, why not CONCACAF? The only incentives is to win points for the FIFA standings if it means something.

shawn_strat
By holding the Gold Cup every 2 years, it keeps the spotlight on the sport in markets where other sports compete for attention. In Europe, football is the clear leader, but in Concacaf, there is baseball, hockey, american football, etc. 4 years would be a long time without a major tourney. gator
People like to complain about the timing of this tournament, too often, in the middle of MLS and Euro pre season! Fact is it give us some meaningful games, with our poor WCQ record, I think these matches can only be beneficial!
