devioustrevor
One of Norway's best young players got taken out in a hatchet job today. The injury looks like the type that can end a career. Per Ciljan Skjelbred was taken out by Ieroklis Stoltidis

Daniel
No, but the stakes weren't as high. It's like the difference between a hard challenge in WCQ and in a friendly. Was it a red? Edit: ok, they were playing for a UEFA Cup spot.
zacRWE
wasn't Stoltidis red carded... I think so, late on in the game... was it cause of this, or am I way out to lunch?

Start fan in exile
Stoltidis took a run at him from 10 yards away, and leapt in with both feet. You could hear the crack of bone over the roar of the sold-out crowd - sickening. And yes, he only got a yellow. At least Stoltidis was honourable enough to call up Skjelbred and apologise in person the next day. The doctors expect Skjebred to be back in training in April; the kid himself recently came out and said he thingks he'll be back in February. The question is whether he'll have lost his nerve. Another young talent - Tommy Øren - had a similar injury a few years ago, and was never the same, even after the leg healed.
