Why so many subs?

I was at the Impact/Whitecaps game on Sept 11, and they made five subs. I also checked the lineups for the Whitecaps/Kickers game from Friday, and they made four.

Why are they allowed to make so many subs?

ULS Division1/A-league has always allowed 5 substitutions per team per game. The same for W-league games(and USL Div 2). PDL allow 6 substitutions.

As to why, your guess is as good as mine. It probably has to do with the fact that a lot of teams play back to back games on weekends and it is very difficult for players to play two 90 minute games in the space of 24hrs. The extra substitutions are greatly appreciated by the players and coach I'm sure.

Yes, they allow more subs because of those back to back games and times of the season when teams play a ridiculous amount of games in a short span.

CPSL permits 11 starters, 7 subs and they can all come into the game.

Some teams recently have been having trouble bringing one to three subs.

Seven subs! Really? That is a lot but with all players having to go to work the next day, that probably makes sense.

I remember that Johnny Matas installed carpet for his father when he was playing for the Lions. That's gotta be rough on the legs.
