Why? You can trace almost every problem in Canadian Soccer back to one glaring travesty:

No Pro League.

Yeah, your elite youth might get contracts in Europe, but what about the bulk of average players? Where do they go? USL 1 or 2? It just doesn't cut it. And there you have Canada: Several excellent players like Stalteri, Radzinski, DeVos, but after that there's a severe drop off in quality.

at the very least, now qualifying for 3 straight U20 World Cups, and having so much success in the last one, this shows that something is being done right with the development of players at the youth level..Maybe its not perfect, but there is definitely some quality talent coming up through the system these past years. Now if we could find a way to convert that over to the senior mens team it would be great. I think the CSA is on the right track by having multiple camps and friendlies in Europe because thats where all our top guys are and the more they play together the better things will get.

Keep in mind that "so much success in the last one" is perhaps laying it on a bit thick. We lost our first two matches, and required a nice performance against the Czechs and a lot of good fortune to get to the next round.

After the first two matches, we did well - but our record was still 2-3.

However, we did have a very good qualifying round.

WHY WE ALWAYS DO WELL IN THE JUNIOR LEVEL BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE SENIOR TEAM WE NEVER MAKE IT TO THE WC????

Roman Tulis would bring teams to Europe in the U12-U17 age groups, and continuously be a threat in tournaments, and even win some, including the Ian Rush tournament in Europe.

Bottom line is, that we have the ability to get them to that level, but they need somewhere to go to take it to the next level. It's called a pro league in this country. One MLS team isn;t going to solve the problem.

Hey Ref, would u rather us not have camps for the boys to get together in Europe then?? We can go back to playing more games like we did the first game against Guatemala where we looked like a fish out of water for 90 minutes because of ill preparation. What I'm saying is at least the CSA is starting to recognize that you have to keep getting the team together every little while to keep players familiar with each other and the team used to playing for their coaches style. With no league in Canada, and our top players all spread out thru Europe, that is very hard to do. Getting together for multiple friendlies and camps in Europe as our main training base for our A team is the right concept in my opinion..
