“We’re obviously devastated by the result, there was such a fine line between the teams out there,” Miller said. “It was two very committed, very competitive teams and it was going to take a mistake or poor defending from one of the two teams that was going to be the difference. And we didn’t defend the goal well at all, and I think that was possibly the only shot (goalkeeper) Matt (VanOekel) had to deal with in the second half.”

Faced with a one-goal deficit to Rayo OKC midway through the second half Saturday night, Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese never had any doubts about his team emerging with a victory.

“All along I believed the guys were going to pull it out and get the victory,” he said. “There was never a doubt the guys were going to put it out.”

The Cosmos did — in dramatic fashion. Juan Arango connected for the equalizer in the 73rd minute and set up Yohandry Orzoco’s game-winner in the 90th minute to register a 2-1 win.

"In the end, it all came down to Ryan Richter.

Richter, who was on the losing side of The Championship Final a year ago as a member of Ottawa Fury FC, converted a spot kick after 120 scoreless minutes to give the New York Cosmos a second straight NASL title, winning the penalty kick shootout, 4-2, at Belson Stadium on Sunday night."

I'm glad the Impact and TFC took care of the MLS New York teams. Otherwise, New York could have won MLS, NASL (Cosmos), and USL (NYRB II), sweeping the top 3 tiers this year.
