Recommended Posts

Result of the Friday July 6, 2012 CSL game between

North York Astros and Brantford Galaxy played

at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 8:30pm.

21 min...BG Dave Simpson GOAL...Simpson has rush

on left and holds off Astros defender Kurt Ramsey and

shoots 10 yarder past goalie Enea Perego and banks

off left post and into right corner of net.

30 min...Astros Vasileios Liagkos GOAL...Astros

Michael Tischer makes long cross from 35 yards on

right over to Liagkos alone on left and he blasts

22 yard shot off right post and into net.

42 min...BG Jacek Przdnowek GOAL...BG Jeremy Shepherd

cross from 35 yards on left over to BG Damion Scott

at 25 yards up middle and pushes ball forward for

Przdnowek to roll 15 yard shot up middle into left

corner of net past the sprawling goalie.

57 min...Astros Jorge Perez GOAL...Perez is chipped

a pass down the middle even with a defender and charging

goalie Melford James Jr runs past the ball at 25 yards

and that lets Perez walk in and fire 10 yarder into

middle of open net.

58 min...BG Braeden Krampert GOAL...Krampert bends low

30 yard shot from right into left corner of net

beyond diving goalie.

66 min...BG Jacek Przdnowek GOAL...BG Marco Machado

chips pass from 40 yards for Przdnowek who chips 25

yarder over goalie into top left side of net.

77 min...BG Jacek Przdnowek GOAL...BG Jeremy Shepherd

gives short pass up middle to Przdnowek who dekes around

defender and takes 25 yard shot into right corner of net.

Final Score:.....North York Astros........2.........

Brantford Galaxy........5............

Attendance was about 80 on this hot humid evening even

with the sun low enough not to cast shadows on the field.

Best non-scoring chances were at 3 minutes when Astros

Jorge Perez took a 15 yard blast from the extreme left

that deflects off the goalie and through box that a

defender cleared on the right right post. 18 minutes had

Damion Scott take a cornerkick from the left that had

Dave Simpson head a 10 yarder off the bar that the goalie

pushes away. 22 minutes and a Galaxy player take

a 20 yard blast up the middle that was saved by the goalie

who then made two point blank saves on'Damion Scott

from 6 yards on the right. 54 minutes had Astros Jorge

Perez get open to take a pass on the right and he ran

to 22 yards and shot past the goalie but a retreating

defender made the save at 8 yards in the center.

A comic moment came about when Astros Michael Tischer

throught he'd scored at 26 minutes on an 8 yard shot

but the offside flag was up before he got the ball.

He didn't notice it and ran back upfield and over

to the stands to hug his relatives but slipped on

the track and crashed into the metal of the stands.

Opening goal scorer Dave Simpson was subbed off two

minutes after his goal with an ankle injury and

replaced with Jeremy Shepherd.

Alexis Vaughan was the referee tonight and she only gave

out one Yellow card that I noticed. The game wasn't

rough as both teams were more looking for counterattacks

when they could.

Galaxy's win tonight puts them into a tie for 2nd place

with a 6-3-0 record. Galaxy had started the season

slowly at 1-2-0. Assistant manager Jim Turnbull said

tonight that at the start of the season the team was

still bringing in players for their first game and

some had never practiced together. Astros stay in last

place with a 0-9-1 record. An insider said to watch

them tire out at 60 minutes. A key point in the game

was when the Galaxy responded so quickly to retake the

lead after the Astros second goal.

I dropped my binoculars through the stands between the

aluminum benches with about five minutes to go. I waited

until the game was over and crawled under an opening

in the front row at the end of the stands and found my

way through the corridor of beams in the dark to the spot

under where I sat and found them safe and sound. I

realized it's been nearly 25 years since I started coming

to this stadium to see at the time the North York

Rockets play in the CSL (different league). I was

thinner and more flexible back then.

This game was recorded by the Rogers Community channel

for broadcast on Sunday night in the City of Toronto.

Also Michael Juby was filming hilights for his

YouTube posts.

Result of the Sunday July 8, 2012 CSL game between

York Region Shooters and Brampton City United

played at St Joan of Arc C.H.S. in Vaughan at 6:30pm.

23 min...BCU Milos Scepanovic GOAL...BCU David Guzman

gives 45 yard pass from right over defender to Scepanovic

who rolls 12 yarder under goalie Camilo Benzi into center

of net.

33 min...BCU David Guzman rolls long pass down right from

55 yards to BCU Alex Braletic who cuts just inside of right

side of box and is upended by YRS Andre Manders. Referee

Justin Tasev awards Penalty kick which is delayed for

treatment of Braletic's injury.

36 min...BCU David Guzman GOAL...Guzman blasts Penalty

kick low to right corner of net out of reach of diving goalie.

37 min...YRS Jason De Thomasis GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey

cornerkick from left has charging De Thomasis leap to head

8 yarder down middle to low right side of net with goalie

Jason Lopes frozen in middle of goal.

45 min...YRS Aundre Rollins GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey rushes

down left after BCU Kevin McIntosh was stripped of the ball at

BCU 40 yards and he rolls pass to right for YRS Fitzroy Christie

who passes to right for Rollins who shoots from extreme right

low to left corner of net past sliding goalie.

46 min (1st Half)...YRS Andre Manders GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey

rolls pass across box from 25 yards on right to YRS Alex Trujillo

who slips up on ball at 15 yards in middle but charging Manders

blasts loose ball from 18 yards past sliding goalie at 3 yards

into middle of net.

65 min...YRS RED card...Andre Stewart earns a direct ejection

for his high kick check on a charging BCU player on the left

sideline. We couldn't see the infracion as it was in the

'hidden' corner of the field near the northwest cornerflag

because the stands are behind the school building and the

angle is too great. Referee Tasev went for his card without

delay so it must have been a serious foul.

85 min...BCU Milos Scepanovic GOAL...BCU David Velastegui passes

ball forward from 35 yards and Scepanovic blasts in 15 yard shot

down middle. Scepanovic earns a Yellow card for pulling his

shirt right off.

88 min...BCU David Velastegui GOAL...BCU Milos Vucinic passes

ball to BCU Andy Garcia who passed to Velastegui in open who

blasts 15 yarder into net. Velastegui earns a Yellow card for

pulling his shirt over his head--but not off.

90 min...YRS Alex Trujillo GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey cornerkick

from right has flying Trujillo head ball in from 7 yards on left

into top right corner of net.

94 min...game ends.

Final Score:.....York Region Shooters........4.....Brampton

City United.......4.....

Attendance was about 100 on this mild early evening with a bright

sun in the northwest and a gusty wind from the north (but both

for only the first half). One of the YRS cornerflags actually

tipped over in the wind.

Well certainly the most exciting game I've seen so far this year.

Most 'unfair' thing about the game was that the Shooters had to

play against a strong wind in the first half but the wind stopped

dead at halftime and so they had no second half advantage. BCU

were taking wind-aided 60 yard shots and goal kicks that were

threatening the YRS goal and getting to long through balls for the

first 45 minutes. I was shocked that YRS were able to score three

goals in the last 10 minutes of the half to take the lead.

BCU took advantage of the man advantage from the moment of the

sending off and scored the tieing and winning goal except that

YRS scored a justified tieing goal at 90 minutes.

Referee Justin Tasev gave out five Yellow cards--three to BCU--

that I noticed but two of the BCU ones were for excessive goal

celebrating. The tough calls were for the Penalty kick and the

Red card both favouring BCU. Both teams had later Penalty kick

appeals denied and BCU had a goal called back at 82 minutes

because a BCU player had flattened YRS defender Andre Manders

in the box.

Best non-scoring chances were at 43 minutes when YRS Desmond

Humphrey took a 40 yard freekick from the right that had YRS

Fitzroy Christey head the ball back on the left end line for

YRS Marcelo Capazzolo to blast a 12 yarder over the net.

1st half injury time (after all the scoring) had BCU Denny

Velastegui get one last wind-aided kick away on a 50 yard

shot from the left that was caught by the goalie at 15 yards

in front of a BCU player. 55 minutes had the YRS goalie jump

out of the way so as not to bump with BCU Milos Scepanovic

(and possibly give them another Penalty kick try) just inside

the box and let a defender make the clearance kick. 60 minutes

had Scepanovic 'pushed' over in the box but the ref didn't

award anything and drew a laugh when he gestered to levitate

him as Scepanovic spun around with his arms up while sitting

signalling what had happened to him. 64 minutes had Scepanovic

take a 25 yard shot from 25 yards on the left that the diving

goalie pushed wide right of the net. 82 minutes had BCU

Alex Braletic beat a defender near the right end line and

crossed into the box and the goalie and defender Manders team

up to clear the ball from the sliding Andy Garcia. Same minute

was thet 'no goal'call against BCU. 84 minutes had Scepanovic

kick from the right that a defender behind the goalie cleared.

Then BCU scored twice!

The result brings both teams up to 15 points but they lose

ground based on other league results and I figure they are

tied for 6th place.

Can anyone tell me how much is the production cost to record/air the CSL Games for RogersTV/TV Cogeco?

Haha, I work for TVCOGECO in Chatham. There are some things people don't know about local TV and if the CSL understood them they could make a serious push to get them covered.

TVCogeco needs the CSL more than the opposite to fill in timeslots? Can u elaborate on that?

I'm not sure if that's what he meant but the CSL is one of the more popular local sports on tv as far as viewership (ignoring hockey of course, it does pretty well compared to other low level pro/semi pro/amateur sports).

Also I'm not sure how much the broadcast costs but I can say at the last game, they came with at least 6 cameramen, 2 commentators and a support crew for the massive rogers broadcasting truck. The equipment actually all looks pretty good, I'm guessing (GUESSING) it depends on how many people are paid full time, part time, or maybe unpaid interns and how paid off their equiment is. IIRC, the ad revenue, no doubt less because of less commercial breaks, is split 50 50 between rogers and the CSL with both actively selling.

I don't think I really answered the question but hopefully I've been able to add a bit.

Edit: I didn't know where to put this but there was a pretty interesting story for people in the Brantford area:

http://www.brantfordgalaxy.com/league/article.php?article_id=23315

Apparantly Milan Borjan came out for a Galaxy youth training session this week with this week's session involving the kids training with the pro team. It's a short article but also pretty awesome for those kids I bet.

Interesting, a colleague of mine did a summer gig a few years ago for Shaw in Vancouver when the Whitecaps were still in the USL(not the NASL) and apparently the budget was just under 10k per game. Quite a skeleton crew he said on top they had a few guys like him doing the stuff for free basically in order to get college credits(audio/video school). Would be great if more CSL/PDL and the New Quebec League get local TV/Radio coverage. Not sure if any Radio station would like to run a CSL or PDL game but hey maybe for a grand........

Have CSL games ever been broadcasted on the radio?

Kingston changed their ownership and coaching over the weekend. I had no idea things were so bad for KFC, wasn't it Jimmy who pretty much ran the club from the offices to the bench over the last 1 1/2 years?

Here's the article:

http://www.thewhig.com/2012/07/08/kingston-fc-gets-new-coach-as-majority-owner-resigns

It's easy to say stuff like this in a press release:

Six of the 40 players now associated with Kingston FC are from the surrounding region. “Our objective, obviously, is to have many more.”

but Kingston isn't able to make much of an impact in the latter rounds of the Ontario Cup so where are these CSL quality local players, willing and able to do all the travelling back and forth to the GTA, suddenly going to materialize from?

Better youth and development programs will result in better players (pro involvement in youth soccer, pyramiding a small city under a top club, higher pyramids can equal more competive tiers, etc etc.) .... IIRC haven't you lauded Thunder Bay Chill (an even smaller city) for focusing on local talent to explain having scant, even canadian, players?

Also, by your own logic, shouldn't London be the home of a great deal of our top players since they do so well in the Ontario Cup and shouldn't London City be as littered with natural talent as TFCA? Or maybe Ontario Cup results aren't really indicitive of a regions ability to produce talent above the amateur level, hmmm? If you want to talk about the Ontario Cup or amateur soccer just make a thread about it, alright?
