alberta white
People here are persisting in the notion that mascots are primarily a North American affectation. They are not. Most professional English clubs have guy-in-a-suit mascots parading around at games. Liverpool would be the most notable exception. Some examples: http://theredcauldron.blogspot.com/2006/08/premiership-clubs-mascots.html http://www.thebesteleven.com/2009/04/best-english-soccer-mascots.html Its not that the Mascots are, or are not, a North American thing. Its that they should not be the be all and end all of the Publicity Drive. Its arguable that the first English Mascot, give or take the occasional regimental goat for the royal engineers in the 1800's, was World Cup Willy in 1966. By then Most of the Current League Clubs, with one or two exceptions had been in existance for nigh on 60 years. Well established without the need for hairy costumery other than in the back four. So in short the argument against them is "Please don't use them as the principle method of driving up support. thats all were saying in general Personly I'd string up every one of them by their thumbs claws and or feathers and replace them with the following... http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2011/04/01/friday-fact-cheerleaders-are-not-the-reason-crystal-palace-are-rubbish If CP Balimore had this lot last year who knows what would have happened.

The only one I wouldn't have tried to hit repeatedly with a goalie stick.
James
And we can rename the team "The Drillers" . It's amazing to know that Crazy George is still alive, never mind still cheering! He must be crazy! http://www.krazygeorge.com/indexFS.html FCE's next 'mascot'
Guest Ed
A little underwhelming on the 'monumental' side. But a sponsor is a sponsor. They could have gone with these guys to get more punch from the 'monumental' announcment:
