gringo
Women's U-15 Team 30 July 2010 Canadian U-15 women off to Sunrise, FL http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=4368 Coach : Dave Benning Canada's women's U-15 team has announced its roster for the upcoming camp in Sunrise, FL. Coach Dave Benning has selected 24 players for the camp which runs 30 July to 9 August. The women's U-15 team is one of several new national teams added to the Canadian Soccer Association's youth program this year. "The selection process has been an accumulative effort from all the national coaches, provincial technical directors, and National Training Centre directors," said coach Benning. "We were able to work together to scout over 180 players from across Canada, including competitions such as the BMO National Championships Nutrilite All Stars these past two years." All of the players are born in 1995 or 1996. These players will be eligible in two years time for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship and FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Canada is the reigning champion at the CONCACAF level and is currently preparing for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010. "This camp will begin the education process for the level of training, competition, coaching, and national camp environment," said Benning. "We are preparing these players for the next FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2012." As part of the camp, Canada will play three exhibition matches against local clubs. Canada will play Plantation U-16 on 4 August, Boca Raton on 6 August, and Florida Nike Rush on 8 August. StrandOne
What do we know about Dave Benning? Where did he come from? Will he encourage a style of play similar to what Morace is trying to instill?
The Ref
At the Youth Olympics in Singapore, Chile U15 won Gold today defeating Equatorial Guinea in PKs 5-3. Bronze medal went to Turkey.
Vic
Congratulations to Chile, EG and Turkey for medaling in the inaugural games. Other participants were T&T, Iran and Papua New Guinea. I missed the question on Dave Benning and Carolina Morace. He's a very bright guy, and you would have a hard time getting 13/14 year old girls playing the same system our adult professional women do. You would think it would be a combo of whichever way works best for success at the age, the way he specializes in or prefers to see them play, and the way our women play.
