Johnnie Monster
Don't know how much there is to this, but MLS Rumors has a bit claiming Steve Nash is bringing his Football For Good charity match to Vancouver this summer, star players & all. Their report qualifies this rumor by adding that the Vancouver parks board is meeting to discuss a 250-person beer garden for the event. This would seem to imply the match is not at Swangard (which is in Burnaby). Could this tie in to the temporary resurrection of Empire Stadium? Could be a huge pile o' crap.... but worth mentioning. Regs
Erm, this is old news isn't it? September 19th is the date I seem to recall for this event.
Regs
It's at David Lam Park. You are a bad Southsider for not knowing this - shame! http://www.whitecapsfc.com/archive/feature06260902.aspx (last 2 paragraphs)
Johnnie Monster
Oh cut me some slack, lol. There's been no news or hype about this whatsoever aside from that news release.
Regs
I blame it on Johnnyranger, he's a ponce of the highest order. September 19th is an odd date really - how many 'friends' can Steve bring at that time of year? Maybe Zizou?
Johnnyranger
As long as Nashy is friends with players such as Henry and not "friends" with players *like* Henry then we are good to go Thanks Regs, love you too
Regs
Yeah that's the point though concerning the date - how many of his friends can show up in Vancouver on the 19th of September?
Calgary Boomer
It could be a bunch of basketball players who are decent at soccer.
Regs
Steve Nash and friends like Tony Parker (France International), Leandro Barbosa (Brasil International), Manu Gibobili (Argentina International), Toni Kukoc (ex-Croatian International), and Dirk Nowitzki (German International). Special guest coach Mike D'Antoni (Italy). Yeah, I'd hit the massive beer gardens for that
Vic
http://stevenash.org/showdown Seem to remember seeing Parker and Barbosa with the skills before. And Barbosa is a human speedball... good luck covering that. Sounds like a really fun day and any org that generates $100k yearly to charity is great too.
