In the land of the NFL, Beckham is likely to reprise the "quarterback" role - deployed as a central playmaker - he took up for England in matches against Wales and Northern Ireland in late 2005. "I would probably think we'll play a 4-3-3, I would see him in the middle of the field for us," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said. "We'll have a chat when he gets over and figure out what the best position is but I see him getting on the ball as much as he can from the centre of the park and distributing from that area. "But I'm not too worried about it at this stage. Wherever a player like David is on the field, he can contribute." Yallop has not spoken to Beckham since a 50-minute telephone conversation shortly after his signing was announced in January, but he is planning to visit his new signing in Madrid. He has every chance of seeing Beckham in action after the former England captain scored on his recall to the Real side last weekend, a 2-1 away win over Real Sociedad. Beckham, 31, had initially been told by Fabio Capello he would not play for the club again after signing for the Galaxy, but Yallop is delighted to see him back in action. "It's good because we were a little bit worried he wasn't going to play for five or six months by the time he got here, so it is nice to see him back in the team," the former Ipswich player said. "I didn't see the (Real Sociedad) game, but I saw the goal. "I'm going to go and see him and hopefully he'll play again so we can see him live and have a chat, but getting him back in the Real side is great for him and great for us." Yallop has been leading the current Galaxy squad through the early stages of their pre-season warm-ups this week, trying to keep the focus on the opening day of the season rather than the arrival of Beckham, which will not come until midway through the campaign. That is easier said than done given all the hype about his arrival. "These are very exciting times for the club," Yallop said. "We want to fast forward to the day he arrives and get going integrating him into the team. We'll feel a lot better once that happens." Much has been made of the commercial impact Beckham will have on the league when he starts his five-year contract - which could be worth up to £125million in total depending on endorsements - but Yallop's focus is what he can do on the football field. "If you look at David's leadership qualities, his work-rate, what he can do in a dead-ball situation, and his crossing abilities, he's a fantastic player in terms of creating chances for your team and I think he's going to excel at that for us," he said. "I think you're getting the whole package. He is a very good guy with his team-mates, he will be well-liked around the league and he will work very hard, but most importantly he wants to win. "He's not here for a holiday. Here's here to do well and I think he'll lead by example on the field." The Galaxy will not confirm the precise figures of Beckham's contract, but it is reported he will be paid wages of around £25million over the course of the five-year deal, with the rest of the value in the deal coming through image rights, endorsements, and a share of ticket sales. The value of Beckham's contract dwarfs that of any other player in MLS, and comments from Galaxy midfielder Peter Vargenas in the days after the deal was announced suggested it could cause some resentment in the dressing room. However, Yallop is confident that will not be the case. "Our players can't wait to have him here," he said. "We're a team that does things together. We're a close knit family on and off the field.
