While MLS and the English Championship have different styles (weather a big factor in those differences) I don't think the quality of play is any different. The best Championship teams are better than MLS teams, but there isn't a salary cap in England. Every MLS team would probably be a mid table championship side. The lower table championship sides would struggle against MLS teams. In 2000 Miklos Molnar still played in Euro 2000 for Denmark while he was an active member of Kansas City. It's not unprecidented.
