Trini Striker Joins The Lynx, Joe Re-Signs

Posted By ryankeay on Tuesday, April 5 2005

Today the Toronto Lynx bolstered their roster with two signings, Trinidad and Tobabgo striker Conrad Smith and 2004 co-captain Joe Mattacchione.

Conrad Smith, who turns 23 next week, spent the 2004 season with the Calgary Mustangs and was their leading scorer with six goals. Prior to that, Smith played with Caledonia AIA in the Trinidadian First Division. This spring Smith trialled with the Metrostars of MLS but failed to catch on. Smith is a small but skillful striker and has made over twenty appearances for Trinidad and Tobago.

Joe Mattacchione returns as the longest consecutively serving Lynx player this season, and as one of the few strong points in last years Lynx defence. Mattacchione has expressed high hopes for this season feeling a new committment has been shown towards the on-field results. Joe had an eventful winter, taking a well deserved trip to Brazil to represent Canada in Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifying alongside the likes of Tony.

Conrad Smith. Great wheels, no finish. Could have scored WAAAAYYYY more than he did.

Mind you, he never really looked comfortable on the plastic pitch and did show some potential (provided he bulks up a bit, the USL Div I is a rough league).

Best of luck to him.
