Friendly versus Portugal?

Lets see we can't beat Concacaf teams so in Frank's wisdom lets take on a top European side? With our defence it will a slaughter.

You don't get better by playing nations with less talent. You get better by playing against the best. Even when you lose you can learn a thing or two.

Another thing, a match against Portugal would really generate interest here. A lot more than a match against a country without such a reputation. Anyway, this is sport, anybody can beat anyone, so why not try to play against Portugal?

If Portugal is willing to play us then great. Since it would be a friendly, they would not likley use all their best players, but it would still be entertaining, especially if Christian R plays.

The Brazil Canada game in Edmonton, prior to the US hosted World Cup was good, even though Brazil took it easy, and it drew lots of fans which helped our teams pay for trips abroad.

Brazil took it easy? Then why did they refuse to trade jerseys

or shake hands after the draw? (I have a tape proving it.)

The WC94 brought many teams to bring up their A squads for preparations. The Canadian squads had to play 2 more matches in

a short span (Morocco, Netherlands).

As for the Portuguese friendly, they'd likely bring their A Team

for several reasons: they're playing in Portugal not Canada;

they're preparing for their WCQ rounds; they did not reach their

ultimate goal in Euro 2004; and they would not want to lose

to a country like Canada. Just like Ireland and the Czech

Republic (and Finland and Switzerland), they'd bring their A teams.
