hamiltonfan
THUNDER vs. BORDER STARS POSTPONED The Hamilton Thunder vs. Border Stars game scheduled Thursday for Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton, an 8 p.m. kickoff, has been postponed due to poor ground conditions. The Brian Timmis ground has taken a great deal of rain during the past week and despite the work of a ground crew to bring the surface back to normal by removing the considerable excess water, a decision was made just after 2.30 p.m. Thursday that the ground is not playable. This was to be the first game for Border Stars in the Canadian Professional Soccer League, who will play their home opener against Toronto Croatia at Windsor Stadium this coming Saturday, a 7.05 p.m. kickoff. Hamilton Thunder have played one game in this new season, a 1-1 tie with Metro Lions on May 27. The next game at Brian Timmis Stadium is scheduled for this coming Saturday when Thunder host Toronto Supra, an 8 p.m. start. An announcement will be made by the CPSL on Friday regarding the status of that game.
Michael Crampton
This smells of absolute bull to me. It rained heavily two days ago and only lightly yesterday morning so there's no way that the field can't be in decent condition. My own men's league team was out practicing yesterday night and the much less well maintained field that we practice on was fine. I'll bet the price of admission that this has more to do with the Stanley Cup playoffs than any "field condition" question. Which absolutely burns me, a regular fan who ->actually pays<- to watch, since I had to drop a shift at work to get the night off and had convinced 5 or 6 of my friends to head to the game with me. Note that the league says it's gonna decide on Friday whether the field will be in good enough condition to play on on Saturday night... that only makes sense if you don't want to game to go ahead. Since the possibly sixth and deciding game of the the Stanley Cup is that night I'm not gonna hold my breath. This practically makes me want to give up on whole CPSL. The league has never been well run but jerking around fans like this is just one insult to much. You made a schedule - STICK TO IT! Mike.
