Blue and White Army
GREENACRES 3-4 WATFORD RES http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~448261,00.html Anthony McNamee curled a 90th-minute winner - with his right foot - to hand Nigel Gibbs' Reserves victory against local non-League side Greenacres at the end of a see-saw Herts Senior Cup 2nd Round tie last night. The lead had changed hands twice before the diminutive left winger had the final say with a sweet strike from Elliott Godfrey's lay-off over impressive home side keeper James Hannington. McNamee scored first and last, putting the Hornets ahead direct from a free-kick wide of the penalty box with just three minutes gone. Spartan South Midlands' outfit Greenacres responded to the set-back, however, and went ahead with two quick goals - a penalty for handball on nine minutes and a header from a flicked-on corner three minutes later. With Watford having been guilty of missing some clear-cut chances in the first-half - Jason Norville in particular enjoyed more than one clear sight of goal - skipper Gary Fisken levelled the tie moments before the break with a deflected 30-yarder that left Hannington stranded. Mid-way through the second half, Greenacres were ahead again when a free-kick near the touchline - from a similar position to McNamee's - was whipped in and crept over Steven Graham's head into the far corner. Norville's stinging shot into the top corner on the turn pulled Watford level once again a couple of minutes later, before extra-time was prevented thanks to the goal of the game from McNamee. Watford: Graham, Mawer, Collins (Boothe 61), Coyne, Doyley, Ifil, Young, Godfrey, Norville, Fisken, McNamee. Subs not used: Martin, Kirk, Diafutua, Catchpole. Cheeta
So are we going to see Mr. Godfrey in the 1st team this year? Maybe a bit (a lot) early I know but a few matchs over the season (even from the bench) would certainly work towards a long term payoff. Your lads look firmly stuck in the middle third of the table. Couldn't hurt. Bit of insane enthusiasm can get to be catchy! By the way. Had a bit of a laugh last night as FSWC had the FA Cup 1st round Thurrock (?) Luton match on. Luton could only draw 1-1 at Thurrock's grounds. Thought you'd like that.
