Final Score:........Toronto Croatia........2........Brampton City United........2......

Attendance was about 120 with support for both teams on this hot and humid and overcast evening. There had been a pre-game sprinkling of rain but no more fell until the game was over.

Toronto Croatia's new signing Marin Vucemilovic-Grgic didn't take long to make his presence felt with a goal at 3 minutes. He played for Croatian team NK Mosor Zmovnica who played in the Croatian 2nd division but were relegated to the 3rd division at the end of the just completed 2010-2011 season. The town of Zmovnica is on the Croatian coast near Split which was where Toronto Croatia played and won a world Croatian tournament a few weeks ago. Vucemilovic-Grgic is age 23. He was double-teamed for some of the game and adjusted by sending in passes to teammates. Best non-scoring chance was at 72 minutes when he rushed in on the left and sent a low cross by a defender that had TC Niko Pesa take an 8 yard shot that had the goalie stand and make a point blank save.

To beat that for efficiency, Judah Hernandez came in at the beginning of the second half and scored in the first two minutes.

A 2-2 tie was a fair result although both teams had chances to win this game.

After the tieing goal, at 88 minutes BCU Cameron Medwin was given a pass down the middle and one touched an 18 yard shot over the net. At 96 minutes TC Tonci Pirija's cornerkick from the left had TC Alex Arbelo get to the ball and head it down and shoot a 7 yarder off the bar. That same minute BCU Jeremy Shepherd was on a 1 on 1 rush and had his shot down the middle from 25 yards sail wide left of the net.

BCU had Kodzo Awitor as the goalie tonight with Jacob Matthews as the back-up. Awitor started the last name after regular goalie Roy Blanche was serving a suspension from receiving a Red card the game before. From what I've heard, Blanche has signed a contract for a team in Qatar.

This was a game between the seventh and eighth place teams—the last playoff spots. Both teams have a better than .500 record but Toronto Croatia although in eighth four points behind Brampton have three games in hand. Both teams will be playing on Sunday.

Result of the Sunday July 24, 2011 CSL game between North York Astros and Windsor Stars played at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 4:30pm.

Final Score:......North York Astros........0...........Windsor Stars..........0.............

Attendance was about 40 on this very hot day with a bright sun in the west.

A scoreless tie was a fair result for a very even game. Stars had much of the build up pressure but

Astros broke out on many good counterattacks. More efficient finishing on both teams was required however it was not surprising as both teams are near the bottom of the standings. Windsor now moves to a tie for 11th with a 2-8-4 record with 13 goals for and 26 against. Astros still haven't won in 12 games and have a 0-7-5 record with 10 goals for and 33 against. Better teams would have capitalized and beaten either team today but this game couldn't be beat for excitement.

Enea Perego earned the shutout for the Astros and Anthony Santilli did the same as goalie for Stars.

Both teams had defenders run back to break up rushes.

Referee Ljubisa Vrjles let a lot of play go on. Bumps in the box were not going to earn a penalty kick as they were all 50-50. Most important was a call he made at 83 minutes to disallow an Astros shot into the net when the goalie was knocked over. “Teamwork” he said after the game was how he and his assistants worked especially the long consultation to get that call right.

Best chances were at 16 minutes when WS Robert Malbasic had a 12 yard blast blocked by a defender and WS Christian Mayorga blasted the rebound from the left that the goalie blocked and tipped from 5 yards wide right. At 29 minutes WS Cristian Dragoi blasted a 12 yard shot down the middle that had the goalie make a two handed block and a defender cleared the ball. A minute later NYA Nordo Gooden ran to the left end line to keep a ball in play and came back out to take a 12 yard shot that was stopped by the goalie. At 36 minutes WS Stephen Ademolu blasted a low 12 yard shot wide left from the right after receiving a throw-in from the right. A minute later NYA Rei Ishikawa on a run crossed from 25 yards on the left had the goalie and NYA Gooden both miss connecting with the ball at 8 yards but the Astros won a cornerkick. At 45 minutes NYA Gooden crossed from 25 yards from near end line had sliding NYA Marcos Rodriguez miss connecting on an 8 yard shot from the right. 56 minutes had NYA Ishikawa receive a tapped back pass and he took a low 10 yard shot wide left of the post. 63 minutes had WS Mayorga take a cornerkick from the right that had WS Filip Rocca boot a 15 yard shot through players in the box and the goalie flies to tip away with his hand. 69 minutes had NYA Gooden chip the goalie but had his 18 yarder wide left. At 72 minutes WS Dragoi chipped a 28 yard freekick from the left sideline had WS Jeff Hodgson shoot a 10 yarder that the goalie blocked and WS Chris Suta blasted a rebound from 15 yards over the net. 76 minutes had WS Mayorga rush on the left to the end line and send in a cross that the goalie swat through the box and WS David Kadoic got a 5 yard point blank shot that the goalie stopped. Astros then had the next seven minutes of chances finishing at 83 minutes when NYA Steven Vickers booting in a 2 yarder into the open net after NYA Gooden had crashed with the WS goalie knocking him down and injuring him. The referee consulted with his linesman on that side to rule that there should be no goal. Astros had already ran off to their own half of center waiting for a restart. 89 minutes had NYA defender Ahton Roberts stepped between to WS players to break up WS Emilio Giorgi from taking a shot from 2 yards. That same minute WS Suta rolled a 15 yarder from the right through a crowd of players wide left of the net. 91 minutes had NYA Alexandre Oran blast a 30 yarder up the middle that had the goalie palm the ball over the net. 92 minutes had NYA Roberts again break up two WS players making a play in the NYA box.

The Stars had won only their second game of the year on Friday night in St Catharines by a 4-0 score. Rather than driving all the way back to Windsor and driving to Toronto on Sunday morning, the team took advantage of the league's hotel sponsor and stayed in the GTA over the weekend (all except one van for some players that couldn't stay). That saved about ten hours of driving for about 25 players and family. Meanwhile Serbian White Eagles travel to play in Montreal on Saturday afternoon and Ottawa this afternoon and lose both games—hurting any chance they had of finishing first this season.

Astros previous game was last Friday when they let in an injury time goal on a cornerkick header against TFC Academy and settled for a 1-1 tie.

Professional means your getting paid to play, look in the dictionary, fan number isn't in it, and like you pointed out, your talking about one of the worst teams this year so are you really surprised people aren't showing?

joby, you mean these guys at the Astros get paid, they haven't won a game in 12 attempts...and try one of the worst teams for the past 5 years....Dovidenja!

'Juby' (i'm a bit of a stickler cause it's my last name)

And yes they do, someone's always going to be a loser in a competition but some of their players definately deserve to be paid, obviously though, their at the least a 'work in progress' as a club.

Maletic was not back in Friday's game. I heard he was still in Croatia.

I don't know about Sunday's game.

DJT--for that other question about my site...I keep having to edit out a file that doesn't belong every few weeks then resubmit my page for reconsideration from Google. It's happening

more frequently although I find I'm able to zero in on the unrequested added files/programs easier than before. Please try again at the end of the week.
