Toronto FC Supporters Seeing Red as Preseason Comes to a Close

TFC supporters are likely feeling very apprehensive as the team and its supporters look toward the season opener next Saturday against their arch rivals in Columbus. Simply put, the team has looked listless and disjointed throughout the preseason and the club’s dedicated supporters have seen more red cards than goals under new Head Coach Preki.

Two seasons ago against Columbus, TFC started Tyler Hemming at right mid due to the lack of other viable options and had a rotund looking Collin Samuel up front, who managed to miss a penalty, on the way to a 2-0 defeat. Things looked pretty catastrophic at that point and there was plenty of time to ponder how bad the upcoming season could be on the bus home. The team went on to win game after game in April and May after acquiring Ricketts, Robert and Guevara before losing their way in the summer months. A lot could still happen over the next few weeks and months and given what just happened with the CBA people should maybe hold their fire until the build up to the second game against the Revolution before pushing the panic button. A couple of signings to sort out left and right mid could make a big difference. Given there is probably less leeway in salary cap and allocation money terms than there was two years ago we probably won't see such high profile players arriving this time around but given what ultimately happened with Ricketts and Robert that won't necessarily be a bad thing.

We can freak out all we want, but the truth is all you have to do is finish 8th and you have just as good a shot as anyone to win it all.

I agree BBTB - we could tank the first two months and still make the playoffs.

I would prefer to have a solid season front to back, but I think there will still be changes and additions that will take time for the team to get into fifth gear.

Two points:

1) Did you make the playoffs that year?

2) There may be signings to come but at the moment it doesn't appear they even have anyone impressive trying out. If guys like Saric are what you are depending on as new signings its going to be a long year for TFC.
