CBC Sports The English Premiership champion confirmed Thursday that it has finalized a transfer deal with German club Bayern Munich for the Calgary-born midfielder. The deal will be completed on July 1 when Hargreaves, 26, is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Red Devils after returning from vacation. The midfielder has already passed a medical examination and agreed to contract terms. United didn't announce the amount of the transfer fee, although Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer said last week that the club would sell Hargreaves for 25 million euros. Thursday's announcement ends United's lenthy pursuit of Hargreaves. United attempted to buy the midfielder last summer and again during the mid-season transfer period in January, but Bayern turned down the English club both times, even though the midfielder publicly expressed he wanted to play for United. Hargreaves left Alberta when he was 16 to join Bayern and helped the team win four German league titles, two German Cups and one Champions League title. He was voted England's best player at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and he also played for England at the 2002 World Cup. Hargreaves is eligible to play for the English national team because his father was born in England.
