terpfan68
The fifa rankings for women's teams come out tomorrow. Canada was ranked tied for 10th with Italy. Anyone want to guess what the new ranking will be? My guess is 8th.
terpfan68
Unbelievable. Canada women only loose to the US 1-0 in extra time and ties with France and China and wins against Sweden, France and Italy (twice) and we drop one place to 11th. It seems dissatisfaction with Pelerud must extend to the ranking committee. (joke) Check it out here. http://fifa.com/en/womens/statistics/index/0,1624,All-16,00.html
The Ref
Playing against boys youth teams does not count for Fifa specially when you lose. I think the teams ahead of Canada just play more games, euro cups, asian cups, tournaments and stuff.
AlanDouglas
The thing to pay attention to is the ratings, not the rankings. Fact is our rating did improve by 14 points. Of top-20 countries only Japan (+34), North Korea (+25), and Denmark (+20) did better. Problem is that Japan was the team behind us, and Denmark was the team in front of us, and there was no other team that we could realistically overtake. If we continue to do well, then we have a good chance of overtaking Japan next time, and if Denmark or China struggle, then we could overtake them as well. terpfan68
Good point AlanDouglas. Now who will get the top seeds for the WC? Host China gets one. Germany and the US should get one. Norway is slightly higher than Sweden, but the rankings are also based on performance in previous world cups so I'm picking Sweden. Any thoughts? I would hope that Canada ends up in either Sweden's or China's group for a chance to finish first, but a second place finish to either US or Germany might help them go farther in the tourney.
