I see that Miami FC have signed Zinho of the Brazilian 1994 World Cup Team. Does anyone know which players have spent time with a USL team who have played at the World Cup ?

I can come up with the following:

Vancouver 86ers:

Paul Dolan (Canada 1986)

Dale Mitchell (Canada 1986)

Carl Valentine (Canada 1986)

Montreal Impact:

Onandi Lowe (Jamaica 1998)

Albany Capitals:

John Harkes (USA 1990, 1994)

I'm sure there are quite a few USA players but I can't think of any of them.

Others?

I found a couple more Americans:

Steve Trittschuh (Tampa Bay Rowdies/Montreal Impact) USA 1990

Eric Wynalda (SF Bay Blackhawks) USA 1990, 1994, 1998

Marcello Balboa (SF Bay Blackhawks) USA 1990, 1994, 1998

Tony Meola (Ft. Lauderdale Strikers) USA 1990, 1994, 2002

Tab Ramos (Miami Sharks) USA 1990, 1994, 1998

Any non-North American players anyone?

Maybe a few players from T&T (depending on the roster this summer)?

Who in particular? Is Nigel Henry part of the World Cup squad?

I found another 2 players who have played in the USL and the World Cup:

Randy Samuel (Montreal Impact and other teams?) Canada 1986

Terry Phelan (Charleston Battery) Republic of Ireland 1994

I imagine nearly all of that 1990 US team at some point played in the APSL or one of the variations. I know Des Armstrong did to add to the list.

More recently Tony Sanneh and Brian McBride played together for the Milwaukee Rampage (and credited that time in part to the third US goal against Portugal) and Carlos Llamosa played for the New York Centaurs.

As for non-North Americans . . . nothing jumps out at me and I'm too lazy to look it up.

cheers,

matthew
