CanadianSoccerFan
Basketball seemingly taking a huge risk on a guy who has never been head coach or assistant coach at any level. They're banking on his iconic basketball status to bring in new sponsors for the cash strapped organization and market the program to people across Canada. devioustrevor
I think they figured it was the best way to try and get Steve Nash back into the National Team program. He was kind of miffed when Basketball Canada fired Jay Triano.
BC supporter
Getting Nash (who has simply been sensational this year) back on-side is less of a consideration, in my view. I agree with CSF's comments: it is a risk hiring an inexperienced coach like Rautins. But it seems pretty clear Basketball Canada wanted someone to serve more as a frontman, raise the profile (particularly in the TO market) and help bring in new dough. Rautins has some obvious assets. Very big shoes to fill, though, and I wish him well.
