argh1
Okay I may only get to 5 or 6 hockey games a year as I can only go to mid-week games. But man this may have been my last or was it 2 days in a row I dunno? First you walk in and there's twenty kids shoving discount coupons from various establishments at ya. Then there's not an open space on a wall that doesn't have a lighted advert sign. Fight the hawkers of club merchandise to get a drink in the concourse. The opening line-up is presented by.....the face-offs are by CNR actually accompanied by a train whistle in surround sound . Time-outs are presented by this or that company. Last minute warnings are by this other company. There's 16 logos imbedded in the ice. The boards are packed with adds (I'm surprised there's not holographic images on the glass). The instant re-play screen has so many brought to you by's you miss 5 minutes of the game watching a re-play of a penalty or goal. Some guy with a hand held camera and microphone is running around giving stuff out to unsuspecting folk at random, which you get to see on the screen. And somewhere in all that there was a game. Daniel
Every game from the NHL. Sounds like non-playoff Habs games.
amacpher
All that stuff is pretty bad but i can block it out to some extent. What I can't block out is when the PA announcer would scream out stuff like "this PowerPlay is brought to you by blah blah blah ..." while the play is going-on. This is not possible to ignore and takes literally everything away from the game. What do they do with all that advertising money anyway? The players get paid chicken-feed for these junior games and the ticket prices aren't too cheap either.
Richard
Excessive advertising and commercialism is one of two main reasons I do not attend top level professional sports events and seldom watch on TV. If the leagues and clubs brought their costs including ridiculous player salaries within reason they wouldn't need all this crud to subsidise their operations. The second reason in case you're interested is the OTT ticket prices. The value for money just isn't there.
argh1
Strangely , I went to the game Tues with friends (against Halifax) and the game had some tempo and all that stuff didn't bother much. After checking the schedule ,I noticed the next game I could get to would be in February and the family were making no demands on my time. So I went by myself to watch Bathust. The game was slow, I stood in one of the few places you're allowed to stand (with that group of other old guys that you see standing at every rink) and all that crap just grated on me nerves. Moral of the story , if the game doesn't keep your attention your mind wonders to all that other stuff I guess. But even still bomdardment of ads it was.
