ST. LOUIS (CP) - Canadian Christine Sinclair was named as a finalist for U.S. college soccer's female player of the year Friday.

Sinclair, a junior forward at the University of Portland from Burnaby, B.C, was named as a finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy along with North Carolina's Heather O'Reilly and Penn State University's Tiffany Weimer. The winner will be honoured Jan. 7, 2005.

The Hermann Trophy honours the top male and female players in Division I U.S. college soccer.

Sinclair, 21, led the University of Portland Pilots with 18 goals and 45 points and ranked ninth in Division I in points per game (2.37). In 2002, Sinclair, a member of Canada's national team, was named the offensive MVP of the College Cup, scoring in overtime to give Portland its first NCAA title. Sinclair is a two-time first-team All-American selection.

Sinclair was one of four Canadians named among the 15 semifinalists for the award, who were chosen by a committee of NCAA Div. 1 coaches. The others were Nebraska junior midfielder Britanny Timko of Coquitlam, B.C., as well as senior defender Melissa Tancredi of Ancaster, Ont., and junior forward Katie Thorlakson of Langley, B.C., who both helped lead Notre Dame to the NCAA title this season.
