The thread title is actually sarcastic.

Iceland 2, Italy 0 (FT). In Iceland, but still this is not going to go down well.

Italy ends up losing twice today with the Olympic loss but they qualified for the quarters for that tourney in spite of the loss.

Yeah, after watching Iceland lose to England 6-1 a couple months ago, it must be said: you've gotta be God-awful to lose 2-nil to Iceland! Catanaccio is dead.

Actually, results like these and Greece's success at Euro2004 might just bring it back alive.

Don't forget that Iceland have had some very decent Euro and WC qualifying campaigns in recent years. They are not pushovers. While they haven't beaten any historical powerhouses like Italy until now, they did beat Czech Republic and Russia and tied Germany, and gave France a really big scare in Paris. They seem to consistently beat the smaller teams, but can go either way against the better teams (eg. this win following the hammering in England).

Italy were without Del Piero, Totti, Cassano, Vieri, Cannavaro, Zanetti, Corradi, Gilardino, Pirlo and Ferrari. They gave two players (one who was in Serie B last year) their first caps.

As usual, this is a friendly and means very little. That's not to say that I'm confident about Italy right now.
