beachesl
In terms of television coverage, NBC has said that they will cover the US Women's team's matches in their entirety, either on CNBC or MSNBC. From Yob on other thread: "CBC isn't showing any soccer: http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/schedules/CBCOlympicSchedule04.pdf TSN is showing soccer starting at the quarterfinals: http://www.tsn.ca/olympics/feature.asp?fid=9770 "
amacpher
quote:Originally posted by beachesl The women are also supposed to announce squads tomorrow. Many already have unlike the men). Notice the weird tournament format because they only have 10 teams (!). Why is having 10 teams (which is, in itself, something that could be avoided) an excuse for having a pis$poor format? How 'bout this: (*placing lightbulb over my head*) two groups of 5. [8)]
beachesl
Yes, they could do this and reduce the playoffs to the top 2 of each Group. However, even that would mean more games (24 instead of the present 20)and an even more unbalanced schedule, in the tight 2 1/2 week framework of the Games. The IOC justified not having 12 teams because the extra 6 matches resulting could not be handled by the available facilities. They said they would look at having 12 women's teams in 2008.
