Rocco Placentino was loaned by Serie B club Avellino to Serie C1 club Teramo Calcio during the final hours before the transfer deadline on Saturday, January 31 (Avellino received a Teramo striker on loan in return).

Teramo (pronounced "TEH-ra-mo") is a city about the size of Avellino (population about 50,000), located just off the east coast of Italy, northeast of Rome (in the region of Abruzzo, where the non-laziale half of my family is from). Teramo Calcio are in midtable in Group B of Serie C1 (which includes AS Sora, the club where David Masciantonio spent time last summer and the city where the laziale half of my family is from) with a record of 8-4-8 for 28 points after 20 matches, 6 points behind the promotion playoff zone and 7 points ahead of the relegation playout zone.

At Teramo Placentino will join at least two other foreigners, including Daniel Ola, a young Ghanaian on loan from Lazio, and Vincent Xatie Taua, a striker from New Caledonia (you don't see that very often!) who seems to be somewhat of a hero amongst Teramo fans.

Teramo Calcio's official Web site at http://www.teramocalcio.it is an excellent one for an Italian club at this level, so it should still be easy to follow Placentino. Here is a photo of their stadium (seats 4,000) and a couple of photos from their victory last weekend in the big local derby versus Giulianova:
