Ziv, I saw it for the first time on Sunday. It's a television show, on 2 Canadian Cable TV sports stations, about soccer that is aimed at children, although it's very tasteful and interesting for adults as well.

It looks like it covers youth teams going to tournaments around the world (it had a Toronto team of about 12 year old boys competing in a tournament in Wales-including a Toronto kid now living in Tel Aviv who travels with the team to a tournament every summer!). It is to encourage youth to get involved in soccer, and to give recognition to the ones that do. It also has sessions on how to develop technical soccer skills. Very postive, humourous and well done.

I guess it is done by a company who have had the show for 5 years in the US, and now it looks like they have started a Canadian version. Probably paid for by advertising revenue. It may be a Canadian production company that specialises in TV shows for an American audience, there are lots of those around because there is not sufficient money for an entirely Canadian TV industry. You'd be suprised at how many supposedly "American" YV shows are actually made in Canada to look like they were made in the US.

Check out the website given on the post above.

Here is a description of the show from its website.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Direct Kicks” has been on air for 4 years now going into it’s 5th season. We are currently being broadcast coast to coast in Canada and on 50 affiliates in the United States on the American Independent Network. “Direct Kicks” is a half an

hour program that runs 52 weeks throughout the year (26 new shows and 26 repeats). We are a youth oriented show focusing on the development of youth soccer around the world. We cover various events such as camps, clinics,

tournaments etc from destinations all over the world. So far this year we have produced episodes in Greece, Australia, Hawaii, Scotland, Florida, and many more.

This family oriented show caters to the soccer youth of the world offering various tips and techniques throughout the episodes. “Direct Kicks” is the only show of its kind around the world, we are the world’s leader in grassroots soccer TV.

We have already had soccer celebrities such as Pele, Mia Hamm, Brandy Chastain, Martin O’Neil, Ally McCoist, Norman Whiteside, Craig Brown, Peter Shilton etc., offering their tips on developing youth players. We have also had only soccer super fans such as Chelsea Clinton and Don King. Our show is the only one of its kind anywhere in the world in that we are interested in featuring the future “David Beckham’s “ and “Pele’s” of the world

actually, direct kicks is totally canadian...and started in canada all those years ago.

it was shown on the New VR (in ontario) previously on early saturday mornings, and the show has really changed through the years as helen has joined the crew and i think has a larger budget.

helen, the co-host, is a former women's nat'l team player and does the color commentary for sportsnet canadian women's telecasts.

i've seen 3 episodes already this year...scotland, costa rica and wales.

DK has a show on WTSN last year: direct kicks for chicks (that is being reaired on FSWCanada), but it doesn't seem like they're doing that again this year. also, both helen and scott have a hockey "spinoff" of DK on sportsnet in the winter called 'slapstick' which is the same premise but about hockey.
