Steve Nash has bought RCD Mallorca

I am somehow not entirely surprised. The team is doing badly after some great years in top flight, not finding the right coaches, the players are not focused on winning. But a good bet, a team with the potential to be in 1st div, that used to have a decent following but has lost it, but that is true for another half dozen sides now out, including in 3rd tier.

Mallorca has a bit of a problem building their academy, as the pool is small on the island and being isolated limits they youngster they can pick up from other sides. This means they really have to go out and get pretty well all their players from outside, they cannot build a strong base even in u-19.

Right now 2nd div in Spain is getting 10,000 a game if lucky. So that is not a decent business proposition, it is just fun. Teams like Tenerife and Zaragoza, and Osasuna, have a greater potential to go up and stay up. Others are similar to Mallorca, like Cordoba and Elche, Alavés. Teams stronger but in 3rd tier are Cadiz and Racing Santander. So they are in that bunch of a half dozen teams that should be pushing for promotion, but would probably struggle once up.
