Drew Shaw
This is from the NASL website: The Fort Lauderdale Strikers defeated Canada’s Under 20 team tonight 2-0 behind two goals from Abe Thompson. Thompson broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when he converted a penalty that was won by fellow forward Aaron Wheeler. His second goal came in the 73rd minute when he followed up on shot by Grant Kerr. The Strikers are looking to build off this win with their home opener against FC Edmonton on April 9th. Lord Bob
Fort Lauderdale isn't the worst team in the universe, at least not anymore. They put on a pretty good show in a friendly against the New York Red Bulls, for example. But still, more proof (as if we needed it) that this crop of U-20s is a couple of steps behind. I wouldn't get too worried about this result. A team of pros should be able to be a U20 team. The standard in the NASL is quite high. I've been impressed by the number of ex-youth internationals on FC Edmonton, and the Impact we know are a good team. The 6 US NASL teams are probably all capable of competing with the worst MLS teams. Cheers.
