World Player of the Year final nominees are in. In alphabetical order, the nominees are; Nadine Angerer (Germany), Cristiane (Brazil), Marta (Brazil), Birgit Prinz (Germany) and Kelly Smith (England).

Anyone who watched the Women's Olympic Final has a confused look on their face today. Solo put up and wall and pulled everything down clinically for 90 minutes. Marta and Cristiane, thanks for coming out. Prinz is nowhere near as dominant. One goal in six games in the Olympics. Kelly Smith, zero. And not just Hope Solo, Lotta Schelin had a great year both in Beijing and club and became probably the best-paid player in the world.

I'm willing to bet 80% of the people who voted had never seen half these women play.
